Has anyone tried to convert this to this?

Our V8 engine bays to...

Lexus gx470 engine covered bays...

I am positive the big grey panel just bolts on in. Emlbem could be swapped with a toyota. Just not sure where the rear and side plastic fillers go exactly. Asside from having the engine clean looking, the very pleasant smooth growl from the engine may be even a little quieter. I thinking about hunting a junker.

Thanks,
Snes

That would be clean. Let us know if you attempt.

Why?!?!?

I personally like seeing my engine and knowing what I'm looking at. I know the plastics are easy to remove, but what's the point. Unless you're trying to build a show truck to compete with the civics and jettas So Gay.

Either way, I think it's a total waste of time and an even bigger waste of money to even attempt something like this. The only person looking under your hood is you and maybe your mechanic (if you don't know how to work on your own truck).

Good luck buddy.

If you want to put all that extra plastic under there, then do it! And then do a write up.

I took all that stuff off my gx because it was a pain to work around, but it just bolts on by several small brackets. The main grey plastic cover should be easy to install.

I'm all about the plastic covers. I think it looks clean. I used to have a Lexus and liked the covers because I'm kinda OCD about stuff. Lemme know if you wanna work out a deal on those covers? Otherwise, I will look into these and let you know if complete this mod.

HAHA, I was just thinking: Can you imagine the look of the mechanic at the dealer or where ever when they first glance at it? Utter confusion........

The plastic covers that Lexus puts on them is "according to them" for aesthetics and additional sound deadening.

Go for it! I can't imagine those pieces being cheap................

I think your right! I will however see if I can find a junker that has been t-boned or hammered from the rear.

Best to try a junked piece. Looking at it, the radiator hose is on the other side of the LS engine. Pretty sure you are going to have to trim. Doesn't the GX have some kind of cover that would be most compatible??

While you under there, throw on some LED hood lights

I started a thread on this a couple months ago: 2uz-fe engine cover

I think the GX cover is nicer than the Land Cruiser but the GX one says vvti on it so I wouldn't put it on my pre-vvti engine. As mentioned in my thread, I think they kinda clean up the engine bay and give it a more modern look so I would put one on. Unfortunately for me, Land Cruisers or even GXs are next to impossible to find at any wreckers around here so I temporarily gave up my search.

Your entitled to your own opinion so if you do like them thats cool with me, but I disagree with the statement above. It happened a lot when I first bought my truck and still happens occasionally....People ask me "So do you have for an engine in that thing?"...when I reply with "why don't I show you?". Nothing more manly than standing around talking about an engine . Don't get me wrong, I want an engine cover for my own personally reasons, not to impress the next person who looks at my engine.

Update...I figure the big silver middle piece is all I need for now. Called the dealer and they quoted me $380! I reiterated the fact that I was referring to the PLASTIC piece in the middle of the engine bay and he reconfirmed. I still want one but will have to come accross it some other way, probably salvage yard.

My wifes 07 Lexus ES-3 50 has a nice clean bay like that...and it's one pain of a but work work on.

You have to remove the panels (about 20 of those clips) just to change the air-filter. Doing a radiator fluid flush - all the panels have to be removed ....what a pain.

Changing the air-filter on my V6 takes me 3 minutes...my wifes Lexus...15-20...

GX470 engine cover on 4th gen V8

Bringing back a super old thread..
So I have been looking into this for a while now finally found a deal on eBay. I know its probably a useless mod, but it looks sooo clean when you pop the hood.

IMG-4342
The Lexus emblem will be replaced with a Toyota one its about 3.25' across. Additional parts are the bracket that holds the rear on Part# 11256-50040 the 2 bolts that hold this on are 10mm and the driver side front bracket Part#11257-50061

IMG-4172
how it looks under the cover.
IMG-4171
The driver side bracket, its shorter than the 4runner.

The additional parts cost about 40 bucks at the dealer, The cover depends where you get it used. Also if you were to do this there are 2 types of covers one with the VVT-i (06-09) and one that just says 32 Valve (03 to 05) I'm assuming.
