Interest in Custom built 05+ VVTI 4th gen V8 4.7 Doug Thorley Headers

05-09 Engine code: 2UZ-FE VVT-i and electronic throttle control Only.

Hello,
As most of you know there are no other options for exhaust manifolds other than OEM and the run about $600 a side. And most of you know that the OEM manifolds seem to fail/crack around 50k-75k. And they are bound to fail again.

Whether you’re looking for performance or like me, looking for a replacement for the cracked exhaust manifold other than Toyota. I would like to see if people have enough interest in buying a pair of headers through Doug Thorley.

I have talked with Doug Thorley over the past few days and they said they thought about making them a few years ago , but found that there was not enough interest in the market to justify making them.
They said that if they could get 25 people seriously interested they could work something out. And they would need a 05+ VVTI 4th gen 4runner to test on. They are located in southern CA. I live in Maine so there is no way I would be able to do this.

I explained that now that the 4runners are getting older/higher miles and more affordable for people to own, that the infamous cracked manifold will be on the increase. And they were a few people out there that would like a different option other than OEM.

Is there any interest at all? I will try and get prices as soon as I can gauge interest.

Thanks guys.

I am currently just living with my cracked one because I think putting another stocker on there would not be money well spent.

That's my thought.

I will work in getting a ballpark price from them on Monday. I will also see on if there is an option for a shorty header with cat, and long tube. I'll keep everyone posted.

We will need to fin someone that is willing to use their 4runner for the design of them. So of anybody know someone in S. Cali that might be up for it, please ask them.

Thanks everyone.

OMG! I was in Iraq the last time we tried to swing this. I'm currently deployed with the MEU, and you want to do this NOW?! Well when I get back to the states I can help because I live in San Diego. I won't be back until late June or early July...ish. I have a 2005 V8 4x4. If you can wait, I'll offer my 4runner. If they need to get the ball rolling on this someone else will have to step up. Either way I am down for the headers as long as they are compatible with my Borla Catback dual exhaust. Because of the money spent on that exhaust I'm not going to budge on that. I DO have the stock system though in case we need to make a swap. Let me know if I can help. My internet goes out because the Navy hogs the bandwidth. I will try to check all PM's. If we really need to get serious I can submit my work email but that is a last resort. Hope this helps gentlemen. Semper Fi.

If you can do this it would be awesome! The next time I'm in San Diego I'll buy you a few beers! (my Sister lives there) I think the timing will work out fine. We need to have 25 100% committed people before they will do this. Thank you for your service to this great country to BTW!

I'll keep everyone posted as soon as I hear anything.

i would definitely be in, same conditions as others

retain cats somewhere, so it wont throw O2 codes
price not more then stock (including cats)
dont need extra fabrication to hook to existing exhaust (BOLT-ON)

Mines starting to go at 120k (kms)

Hope to see something able to be done for our beasts!!

aren't 03-07 all set up just a little bit different, which is why no one has made headers yet? so you don't just need a 4th gen, you need an 03, and an 04, etc.

I wish they were $600 each. My dealer quoted me $1200 each side plus $100 worth of gaskets for a grand total of $2500. My crack is also getting worse so I'm seriously interested. I'd even give a deposit if need be.

Also I have spoke with an exhaust specialist who said if he built me headers, he would use high flow after the headers that would be 100% emissions legal around here, not sure about california.

EDIT: Why does everything good have to be for VVT-i V8s!!
