sorry for bringing up an old thread but does anyone have a part # for the 2 metal clips? I need them and any dealer I ask says you have to buy the whole console. that seems a little ridiculous to me.

does anyone think that these will work?

They might, although the clips are a little different. The clips on my GX console don't have those "flat" bases. If you get these, you might have to bend them to fit. Worth a try for $5.

The body ECU is what controls the lamp fade (power for the lamps goes through it as well, but that is only for the ECU to remove power to shut them off after they've been left on after so many minutes).
I would run three regular unshielded wires, and one shielded twisted pair for the mic if you are going to use it. It's pretty simple to run wires up the A pillar - just be sure to run them (and secure them) behind the side curtain airbags. Ground the black wire to a chassis ground. I ran the yellow wire to the lighting wire of one of the dash panel switches (I did this when I relocated my DAC switch, which I was coincidentally doing at the same time). The brightness on my LEDs varies with the dash light switch this way. Pretty nice to be able to adjust them.
The ground with door open (blue wire) I wired to the body ECU, middle plug - pin 6. This allows the lamps to fade out just as the other dome lamps do, and is a common ground output for all of the doors (if you notice, each door has a separate ground to the ECU so it "knows" which one is open). If you were to connect to one of these outputs, the map lights would only come on when that one door was opened.

And if you truly wanted to, you could actually take the sunglass holder off the 4runner one, and swap it with the Lexus one so it doesn't stick down. But it hasn't bothered me in the several years since I installed mine.

And yes, that is grey! LOL
@A/V1

Hey Brad, couple of questions if you don't mind.

1) The Blue wire (which you connected to the body ECU), keeps the map lights on when a door is opened and fade to off when closed?? With pin 6, do your lights come on when any door is opened or a particular door?

2) When you say 3 unshielded and 1 shielded wire to mic use, I only see 3 wires (3 pins) being used for the mic. I would think you would want to use all 3 wires shielded. Why? B/C I have no idea what each of the wire do (no pinouts). Did you end up using the mic?

Thanks!

Hey Ed.

1. Yes, the added dome lights come on with all four doors being opened (I don't remember if the tailgate turns it on). They do fade out.

2. I honestly don't remember anything about the OEM mic. I replaced it with the mic from my Kenwood because I was having unwanted noise. I just used a mini molex jr to connect the wires I previously had running through a D-sub at the ceiling break. Molex connectors are great!

Great! Thanks! Going to tackle this in the coming days. I keep confusing this with JA's interior light mod. With the GX console mod, JA's mod is no longer necessary (unless I'm missing something). Anyway, I do plan on using the mic, I'll post pinouts with any findings.

Wow, 5 year thread revival!!

Anyway, dont you hate it when a useful thread goes "dark". Anyway, here is what I salvaged from a few years ago.

Sure is pretty

Underside

Here is the plug you will have to splice into (look at the last pic where I drew up what wire goes to what for this to work)

Remnants of the pics that are now gone.

More pics

Diagram of what to connect

So:
On the Console plug, everything is self explanatory except for the last 3 wires.
Yellow:+ 12v for the ambient amber LEDs. Just connect these to a "dash light" wire or however you want.
Black: ground (if I have to explain this, go back to bed)
Blue: This is the "Door open" wire that tells the map lights to turn ON when a door is open. What I'm going to do is fish a wire to the rear map lights. Most do this.

There is another plug that is supposed to plug into a Lexus GX mic circuit, but most don't bother with this (and most don't have the mic on their 4Runner). Don't forget there is a factory mic (mine came with one) where the sunglass holder is. Anyway, I won't bother with it when I install an Android head unit in several months.

Hope this helps!!! Good luck to all (and me, LOL). I'll post pic of any progress and findings I may have.

EDIT: Opps, the pics that are gone are really gone, I can't find those pics that Honda-nos posted. Anyway, he and the truck are long gone. The pictures @A/V1 posted are still visible!

I literally just got GX console out of storage this weekend to finally install it (bought it few years ago) and was searching for this exact thread. Glad to see it pop back up with a new post. Thanks!

I had PMed cookie about more info about the overhead console. After installing it into my rig I found that the sunglasses holder ear was being pushed on by the headliner which not allow it to drop down with spring tension, I eventually gave up on it after dissecting the overhead console and found a new one with homelink from a local scrap yard for $5 out of a toyota camry that fits.

let me know if you run into the same issue with the sunglass holder not coming down properly.

Appreciate the tip. I dont remember any fitment/door issues when I did the test fit last year but I'll be sure to cycle it all the way through to make sure. Hoping to install over the next few days so I'll find out soon.

So, did you install it? Get everything to work? I have the pinouts (see pics), and decided to not use the Lexus mic it comes with (I don't have the pinouts for them). Anyway, I tried to crack open the sunglass holder and I did get it to open very slightly, but not all the way. I did this so I can remove the Lexus mic and install the Toyota OEM mic I got years ago. Anyway, I could never get it to open than 1/4 in. I was afraid of damaging it, so I snapped it back together.

For the LED lights (ambient), what did you use to connect it?

Also, did you connect the lights to the passenger overhead lights for it turns on when you open the front doors?

Thanks!

For those wanting use the Lexus microphone, I'm pretty certain I found the schematic/pinout for it.

As you can see, this is the console looking at it sideways. The white plug with the 3 pins is the plug for the mic (obviously). As you can see, there are 2 pins right next to each other and the 3rd further to the left.

Found this on clublexus forum. Leftmost pin is the MACC, middle plug is the MIC+ and the last (rightmost) pin is the MIC-. Remember to shield both the MIC+and MIC- and ground the shield. Anyway, if you are using an OEM NAV (like I am), connect them to their respective wire/pin/whatever.

Anyone chime in if this info is wrong. In the coming days I'll be hooking it up and I'll post results here.

Just got in my GX470 overhead unit, I'm thinking of re-pinning the connector (if needed) to locate the right console side pins in the connector to match the car. Then I can run separate wires to each of the 3 other connections (ambient, dome, and ground).

Hoping to get this knocked out this week or this weekend if possible!
