Plasti Dip Cladding on BLACK '03 4RUNNER!
Alright guys, I know a bunch you of, myself included, was looking forward to see someone Plasti Dip the cladding on their BLACK 4Runner. I wanted to do it for a while and since today was my first day of spring break, and NJ saw amazing weather today (sunny, 70 degrees), I went for it! Took 7 hours, I went at a relaxing pace, had some music playing, was in no rush. It took 4-5 hours just to mask everything, tape, index cards, newspapers were used. However, before I masked I washed the cladding, then towel dried it. Let me know what you think!

that's a lot of masking
the cladding is the part of the car that takes the most impact from daily uses (shopping carts, bugs, road debris...) you think the plasti dip is strong enough for all that?

Yeah, and some overspray STILL got on good thing it rubbed right off though, haha. Yeah, I think it should hold up. I expect the only thing that could damage it would be if something sharp cut into it, enough for it to peel. But since it is rubberized paint, it is flexible and won't crack like regular paint. Also, it dries pretty uniform so it shouldn't be too difficult to spray small areas that need repair.

About 4 coats. I used up 5 cans, could have used another but 5 was just enough.

That turned out really nice. I have thought about doing that as well. Try to post some better pics in the sun if you get a chance.

Will do. I plan on washing it, probably on Wednesday and taking some better pics. I am really impressed with how it turned out, and if everyone's willing to put in the time, and about $35 worth of Plasti Dip, then go for it!

Awesome stuff! There was another thread of an owner doing this on a silver 4R but he never finshed....
I would do this in a heartbeat to mine but I don't have the 6-8 hours

Yeah, it's definitely something you do all at once, unless you have the discipline to start the whole process over each area at a time!

Did you ever get a chance to take some day time shots? And how is it holding up?

I've been waiting for someone to do this.
I'd like to see a close up shot in the day to tell how close the color match is.
