My nav only has route and destination options for a few states. I live in Idaho and it has nevada and montana and oregon and washington but thats it i think. Do i need to buy another disc to get more? Im from california originally and would like to have it on there. Any help guys?

I'm glad I don't have nav on my 4R, wishing I didn't on my Land Cruiser. The nav databases are out of date when delivered, and the systems are obsolete in a few years. I generally use my phone when I need to find and nav to someplace, or a cheap GPS if I'll be somewhere remote.

Although you dislike the nav, I don't think it's that bad. I was hoping for something more problem solving, like if you can get a new dvd or something..

mine has the option in the settings to change the region of the country you are in. I think it is broken up into 4 (or so) regions, mine being Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, and Montana (I think). I can check for you when I get back to my truck this evening.

I can get a new DVD for my '03 LC, $200-ish. It goes in a box under the driver's seat. I've not heard of separate DVDs for different regions.

Most enthusiasts seem to prefer non-nav. When the nav system gets obsolete or malfunctions you can't replace it if it also controls your A/C and radio etc. Right now I'm wishing my LC had USB ports for charging and playing music/videos, wishing my nav database included new highways and neighborhoods in my area, and various other modern functions. If I didn't have nav I could put a nice entertainment system and GPS in my dash for not a ton of money.

Try this link: Toyota 4Runner Factory Navigation Map Update Information

All you have to do is purchase the CDRom and itsert it into the NAV unit (slot under the CD). Very easy.

The OEM NAV isn't as advanced as many aftermarket NAVs, that's for sure. For me, it gets the job done and that's good enough for me.

It being not so advanced is actually what i like about it. Simple, straight forward, real time positioning, just a solid basic unit.
