Wind noise with sport roof rack on sr5? Bars aligned properly, what else could it be?

Are the bars installed in the correct orientation, with the directional arrows pointing forward?

I reinstalled my rack after having it completely removed for a couple of years, didn't notice the crossbars were directional, and naturally got them on backwards. The wind noise was horrible.

What does it sound like?

I have a factory rack on my 2007 SR5. On windy days i hear a torqueing sound like the main mast on sail boat being stressed by the mainsall. It is an odd sound. I tried playing with the location of the cross bars and that seemed to help but was temporary. Tightening cross bars did not help. Anyone ever heard this type of noise?

Noise should be expected with any roof rack.

If not in use i have my cross bars to the rear. Significant reduction in wind noise.

They're directional?! Well crap, I never even noticed that! Did you get extra lift with them backwards? LoL

When I had my 04, that model had the roof rack. I at times move the bars on it especially having the sun roof and used at times. I would get noise more in certain locations. If I remember right, they have locational arrows on top to place them at to supposedly minimize that noise, it did for me. Not sure if that was for when using the roof top window when open.

Not trying to be a wise a$$, but this is to be expected. I've had roof racks on all of my 4Runners and Tacomas, all had some noise.

I took my crossbars off shortly after I bought the 4runner 10 years ago. No noise and I never use them anyways.
