I have to agree with Dawg4Runner on this one. That's the first thing they made me think of...look of no caps. Not that that's bad thing, im running cap-less right now ha. I also agree with you in that the shorter caps def look better. If I had to pick one based solely on looks , I'd go with a short, chrome cap. However, knowing that you just bought these, I would just keep them.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I will give it a few days to see how it grows on me. I am going to go ahead and shorten the chrome caps anyway. While i had the wheels off i looked at the chrome caps backed out to make them the same length as the black ones and they looked really good shortened. Who knows....lol...

Well, i ended up going back to the chrome caps. I liked the black ok, but the chrome caps just look better to me. Before i switched them back i went ahead and cut the chrome caps down as well. I think it just gives it a cleaner look with them being a little shorter. Here is a before and after comparison.

How did you cut the caps? Isn't there a press fit flange on the back that seals itself around the hub when you mount the wheels?

The caps have to be put in from the back of the wheel before they are mounted. They just have a lip on them. I ended up going back to the chrome caps. I liked the black, but they just were me.
When i cut them down i just measured in about an inch and made a mark. Then i put the caps on a flat surface, face down. Next to the caps i stacked up a couple of books and put a sharpie on top so that it lined up with the mark. This way i could just turn each cap against the sharpie and it made a perfect line all the way around them. After that i put painter's tape around the caps, right on the line. This gave me a good hard edge to follow with my Dremmel and cut off wheel (actually a few wheels). Once they were cut down and drum sanded i took a pair of Channel Locks and just made a new lip all the way around. Then i was just a matter of installing them. Here is a comparison pic of the black caps.

I just cut the metal part and added the lip to it. It basically puts that seam between the metal part and the plastic part even with the face of the wheel.
I was just about to send you a pm.

Morris, you know the plastic cap that snaps onto the metal tubing - does it seem like you could pop those apart fairly easy?
I mean, if it were on your truck, could someone come by and pretty easily pop them off of your wheels? I ask because they are just like mine.
I am able to just go up to mine and snap the plastic piece off.
I don't worry that they'll get stolen, but I do worry that they will come off.

Ok cool so you literally cut it clean half way down the cap, then bent the cut edge to form the flange?
Pet peeve of mine is long caps on wheels! The caps really don't need to be any more than 2" or so long!

On the set that came with my wheels, and the black set i had ordered, they had some white stuff on the inside of them that holds them together pretty good. I would think you could use silicone to do the same thing. Good thing about having the cut, them seam between the plastic cap part and the metal sleeve is slightly below the face of the wheel. It would take some work for somebody to pry those off.

It isn't quite half way. If you look at the comparison shot of the stock cap and the one that has been cut, you can see it is about 1" between the edge of the tape to the floor (which is the inside part of the cap). I wasn't totally put off by the longer caps, but since i could fix them like this i am more pleased with'em.....
