momo.75's '03 Sport 4.7L V8 Build

I bought my 2003 Sport Edition in November 21, 2002. I had it for several years before making any mods. It will be a while before I sell this truck.

Decided to go back to 17" Machine finish Method 301s with 285/75 17 Toyo Open Country AT3s.

08.23.19

After a few months i had been wanting to change the look a little more. I started looking for a black grill, door handles, roof rack and rear hatch piece. After a while of looking without any luck i figured i would just go buy them pre-painted from Toyota....... Just for the door handles, grill and rear hatch pieces it was going to be closed to $700. After rejecting that idea i decided to give it a shot and repaint them myself. At the worst I would be forced into buying the painted pieces. I spent about three days scuffing/sanding, painting, wet sanding and polishing. I was very proud with the results, especially since it was all Duplicolor rattle can products. As for the rack, i just decided to buy a black Urban Runner Rack and replace my silver one.

I had also acquired a set of step tubes from an '06, thanks to Roll Tide. They were grey, so i started working on them to make them match the rack. Yes, i know it looks better without running boards and tubes, but since i have 4 year old twins and a wife that is only 5'1" i have to have something for them.

Over the last 3.5 months, i have been trying to find one more wheel to match my 18" Port Installed Enkei wheels. I wanted to find one because i would like to have a rear carrier fabricated and of course the spare has to match. I have contacted around 120 salvage yards, scoured ebay and Craigslist with no luck. After all that searching i decided to go with the BBS wheel, which i found a used set locally. I was also able to find a single used one on ebay, so i have my five.

Here it is with the new wheels and step tubes.

The last real thing i want to do is have a fabricator to make the rear carrier. Other than that i am really pleased with the look.

You have ONE NICE RIG! I really like what you've done with your 'Runner, it's one of the nicest 4th Gens I've seen! I especially like the headlights, how they are "smoked"...

Thanks farmer. I blacked them out myself. Here is a thread on how to do it yourself. It has other information on installing HID's, but the basic info for taking them apart and painting is there.

another blacked out headlight thread...DIY lots of pics.

Momo which brand blacked tail lights did you buy? I want to do the at least the tube steps swap also, that looks a lot better. I'm liking the newer roof rack too. :/

Thanks Dawg.

Patrick, i can't remember exactly, but i think i bought them from Burtman.

Burtman Industries

You can also find them on ebay. I had thought about going to a projector headlight and LED tail light, but i personally like the look of these headlights and tail lights better, at least on my truck.

Thumbs up

A couple little things I have done, that aren't really noticeable unless you really look. i had taken the Tacoma skid plate off and painted it with Plasti-Dip. Since i was blacking out everything i thought it would look better. It isn't as noticeable now, but still adds a little something to the front end.....

Another subtle thing i had done, was on my Yakima roof rack. I took the small Yakima logos off the towers and hand cut some TRD decals the same size and placement. I also had recovered my fairing with black vinyl and cut the 4RUNNER logo and placed it in the same spot where the YAKIMA would be.

Yup, me too. I know most seem to prefer the led tails and projectors, but I like the differentiation between the casing and fixtures on the 03-05 models.

Darn, I was hoping the roof rack was something you could buy like that, I thought I had seen others with the same one. Do you know if anyone sells anything similar? I love the logo on the roof rack!

Are you talking about the TRD logos or the 4Runner logo?

Been falling behind on my updates.

I ended up selling my BBS wheels and replacing them with a set of Machine Finished 18x9 Method Standard Wheels. They have a -12 offset which gives it a great stance.

And one beauty shot...lol
