Will a 2003 drive without a front drive shaft?

Just like the title says. I broke a u-joint( well previous owner did) so I took it off thinking I could just use the rear wheels and the front part of the transfer case spins but the rear don't. Am I missing something. Thanks for the help appreciate it.

Is it a V6 or V8? If V6, make sure it's in 2WD. If V8, make sure to lock the diff. The center diff is a Torsen, so in theory, as the front has no torque being applied, and the rear has some resistance, it should be biasing your torque toward the back. Who knows what happened to the transfer case if the U-joint was broken. Either way, try locking the diff. in 4WD.

It's a V8. It doesn't do anything when I press the lock button. Just light comes on. Also myVSC TRAC and VSC OFF lights are on. I can even push the runner while it's in park.

I would look into being sure your front diff was getting oiled. If the spider gears sit above the oil level and the slinger is tied to the pinion, then the spiders would be spinning dry, and that would bring the suck. I don't know that's what would happen, but I'd check on it.

Replace the u-joints?
Why risk more damage for a low cost part?
