I've only managed to get slightly over 24 a few times so I put in mine for 22-24.
Current Mileage: 31,000
Fuel: 91 premium
Oil: M1 Synthetic 5W-30
Tire PSI: 32
Driving Style: Relatively conservative with occasional "outbursts" when somebody pisses me off. I'm usually driving around 60-70mph
Driving: 95% highway with my commute being 100 miles round trip.
Last 3 fill ups: 23.06, 24.63, 22.65
Here are my findings: My mileage increased a bit after 20,000 miles. You get the best mileage driving at 50-55 mph and mileage decreases rapidly past 70mph. The bug deflector helped the mileage slightly.
EDIT: I edited to include some more info about the way I drive.

Since I bought my 4runner in Dec, I'm averaging 19-21mpg. I do mostly 85% hwy driving(I average 2500-3000 miles a month). I've also noticed that if I use regular grade, my mpg drop about 1-2 mpg. I stay with premium and with the better gas mileage, I end up paying half of the difference in cost. Cruising at 70mph also makes a big difference.

why is it that some people get 24mpg and others (like me) get around 16.5?
I realize that the way you drive as well as the speeds (roads) you are driving on make a difference, but 7.5 mpg difference?!

'04 V6 Ltd 4x4 (mpg specs are for 2wd mode, I only put it in 4HI in bad weather)
Driving style: 75% aggressive; 25% moderate
Average highway speed: 80-90mph
Fuel: premium 91
Oil: synthetic (M1)
Daily commute: 95% highway, 5% city (usually 150miles to 250miles daily; 3,500 to 4000 miles monthly).
here's several scenarios/setups that I've encountered:
1) stock from dealer (dunlops @ 32psi): 20-20.5mpg
2) stock from dealer (tires @ 40psi front; 38psi rear): 21mpg
3) addition of Yakima Megawarrior basket w/extensions (tires @ 32psi): 16mpg (way too much drag, especially at higher speeds)
4) addition of Sunroof Wind Deflector (improves aerodynamics & noise levels of the installed Megawarrior basket) tires @ 32psi: 17.5mpg
5) addition of sunroof wind deflector (same as #4, but tires @ 40psi front & 38psi rear): I will soon find out after several fill up
my current configuration is #5
all mpg figures are hand calculated, display readout is usually 1.5-2mpg higher. I usually refill the tank when there's 1/4 to 1/8 of a tank remaining.
future setup #6) add on the front hood protector/deflector, may improve aerodynamics a bit

In the city, my best doing 50 -55mph, and not rev over 2k rpm I have gotten 18.4 mpg
Revving over 2k rpm and driving about 60, 16.4 - 17.8 mpg
On the highway, my best milage is always holding steady at 70 mph.

I average about 18 miles per gallon, but that's with about 75% stop-and-go driving on backroads.
On a long highway trip, I average about 22 miles per gallon. I could probably bring that up a little, but I tend to mash the pedal once in a while

Well, I'll tell you one thing for sure-- all these people that changed their tire size to 265/70-17 do not get accurate mileage figures because their tires are 1 inch taller than stock.
That's enough to make a fairly significant difference in mileage figures....

I have about 2500 miles and use 91 octane and only get about 17 miles to the gallon. I do both highway and city driving and I'm pretty easy on the pedal. But I think the thing that affects my mpg the most is I usually warm up my 4runner for 5 minutes.

so would that make the milage "appear" on paper better or worse? I just cant understand why there is such a gap in our mileage. I will play with tire pressure to see if that does anything.
I just ran some injector cleaner through as well as a take of premium. I only have 18,500 on the clock , so maybe Im starting to get her broke in ..... i dunno, i just expected a little better mileage.

I usually get between 15 and 16, mostly around town driving. On the road trip from San Diego to Reno, I averaged about 23 MPG.
Why are you guys filling up with 91 octane?

20 mpg here always (mixed driving). Interesting observation though: lack of fifth gear means drop in gas milage at speeds over 75 mph, bomer...

I didnt think about that, all 2004 V6's have the 4 speed auto right?

The stock tires (265/65-17) do 660 revolutions per mile (circumference is 96 inches)
The tires that a lot of people here are running (265/70-17) do 638 revolutions per mile (circumference is 99.3 inches)
This will make the speedometer/odometer 3.4% too slow, due to the larger tires.
If a full tank of gas lasts for, say 300 miles, the difference in revolutions between these two tires sizes is 6,600 for just that one tank of gas !!

All city and Autobahn
Right at 17.
Best was on a recent trip averaging about 90 - 95 mph and I got 21.7 there, through the mountains.
When I was still in the states I got 24 on a trip averaging about 70 from Cocoa Beach Florida to Louisiana, it was about 2100 miles round trip.
I'm adding the Gen 2 FIPK and every time I've had it on a vehicle before it has added at least 1mpg in the city and 2-3 on the highway trips, can't wait to add it
