Specific question about sealed transmission fill technique

I did a drain and fill a couple of days ago. It was messier than it probably should have been because of an assumption I was making about the fill technique.

I could have sworn that I saw a Toyota PDF once that said not to insert a fill hose any farther than 1/2 inch into the fill hole of the transmission. Extensive searching of all my PDFs has failed to turn up anything that says this. I was curious about it and carefully felt inside perhaps a full inch and it just seemed to be a metal cylinder and I never felt where it ended.

So my question is how far have people been inserting the tube when filling? Is there anything in there that could be damaged by gentle contact with flexible tubing?

No, you will be fine having it in a couple inches.
