Bilstein 5100 Loose Coil Spring

Working on my 5100 Bilstein shock swap.

Just finished pulling the front strut out and removing it from the coil spring. I reinstalled the coil on with the Bilstein on the 0" or stock and after the coil compressor was removed the shock doesn't seem to seat with the same pressure that it did on the stock strut. I can spin the coil spring under the top plate rubber cap. It is not easy but not hard to spin it.

Anyone ever have this issue?

I am thinking perhaps since the springs are at 100k that they have compressed slightly and to compensate I should reinstall at the 0.85" to back compensate. I wanted to keep everything as stock as possible.

Thoughts?

I agree, something doesn't sound right. If your coils are sagging that much, I think it'd really be noticeable. Can you post a pic of the assembled shock/coil? Using the second notch would work, but I think that's just a band-aid over a bigger issue.

I can take a picture later but I have finished the install.

I ended up using the third notch and reassembled. Coil fit firm like the stock strut. I got a little bit of lift out if it. Maybe a half inch to an inch. I didn't measure before bc I didnt intend on having this scenario...my guess is that the springs have sagged a bit over time.

Rides great even though I haven't gotten the alignment done yet. Huge improvement over the original shocks/struts.
