Puff of smoke already on my 05!!

The other day I was standing outside when my wife was starting the runner. When she started it I noticed some smoke, yes smoke when it started.

The truck only has 2900 miles on it. Should I be concerned? Anyone else noticing this on theirs?

On very rare occassions. I have 39K miles and no problems. Do you by chance smell antifreeze at times?

where did you see the smoke comming from? Sometimes, it is because of the left-over oil. Have you changed oil recently?

If it was started in the early morning, you may see more smoke comming out of your tail pipe. Have you tried to start it sometime in the afternoon instead to see if weather is a factor here.

What colour smoke?

A puff of black smoke on startup is usually because of the rich mixture when an engine first fires up. Black smoke = unburned fuel and a little black smoke on startup is possible with any engine.

White smoke is water, and is also common on startup, because condensation/water may be in the exhaust.

Blue smoke is oil, which could mean a few different things...

When I noticed it, it was in the early evening @ 5ish.

The smoke was more on the white side, but not a pure white if that makes sense. I don't think it was weather related because it hung around in the air to long and did not disapate right away like cold weather exhaust steam does. Definitly not black or blue smoke. Thanks for the input.

I noticed the white smoke when I first got my 03 V6...only once in a while though.

And yes Sac State, I have smelled antifreeze before but just thought I was nuts.

One of my runners does the same thing. Its oil smoke. I need to tell the dealer next time in, so its logged. prolly a few drops getting by somewhere, I dont think its anything to worry about.

I'd suggest a used-oil analysis at your next oil change. That can reveal lots of things, both serious (water/antifreeze in the oil) and trivial.

For $20-30, it's an inexpensive alert to potential future problems.

White smoke has absolutely nothing to do with valve seals, as it isn't oil smoke.

If the smoke was white-ish, I would tend to think it was condensation related....as a cold startup tends to kick out anything that may be in the exhaust system. I doubt it's anything to worry about given your mileage, but might be worth mentioning if you continue to notice it.
