Loving my 4th gen...
Just got back from the first long trip in my 4th gen ('07 SR5 4wd.)
LOVE this vehicle! I was worried that going from a 3rd to a 4th would be difficult but I have to say it's a great road trip vehicle.
Best feature? Probably the significantly more powerful 4.0 engine, but the 5 speed auto is a close second.
MPG from Denver to Durango (about 340 miles) was ~17.3. Not bad when you consider that this route starts at about 5600' elevation and then crosses the following:
* Kenosha Pass, 10,000'
* Red Hill Pass, 9,993'
* Trout Creek Pass, 9,346'
* Poncha Pass, 9,010'
* Wolf Creek Pass, 10,857'
and that I was pulling a ~1200lb teardrop trailer!
Another awesome feature is the gas tank size. SOOOO nice to have a genuine, 400 mile range on a vehicle again. Filled up in Durango with 19.5 gallons, a gallon more than my 3rd gen even held, and I still had almost 4 gallons left.
Nice and quiet compared to my '99, too.
We even did some mild 'wheeling: Drove the "Alpine Loop" from Silverton (Cinnamon Pass to Lake City and then Engineer Pass back to Silverton.) Yeah, she did scrape a few times, although at least some of those scrapes were the running boards (which will be coming off soon.) Still, the lower clearance of the 4th gen did show itself.
However, the 4wd worked flawlessly.
All in all, I'm very happy with my purchase. Much as I'll miss my 99's goat-like capabilities, the '07 is much more refined and modern.
