no answers here, just another question for my research... is it confirmed that all 4th gen sports (i have a '06) came with the 338s?

should i stick with OEM rotors from toyota or is there a better option out there that won't brak the bank?

Having read and reread the postings on here I think you can assume you have the larger 338mm rotors and therefore the larger calipers marked WH on the caliper body. As others have said before the only way to be absolutely certain is to look underneath for a WH stamped on the caliper body and/or measure the rotor. I would check because I am about to change mine to the smaller SR5 front rotors/calipers so there are no guarantees unless you owned your 06 from new.

Sorry that probably doesn't help you much

My 08 LTD has the WH calipers which translates to the larger rotors. It's always advantageous to use a larger rotor. It will be able to dissipate heat much better.

Where is this code stamped? I just pulled a wheel off and all I can see is 7 30 stamped on the outside edge. I looked at the rotor hub and didn't see anything stamped on it.

Why does this have to be complicated?!?

The earlier post in this thread said that you can't necessarily base the rotor size on the tire size.
Do you disagree?

I'll take a stab at just measuring the rotor tomorrow.
toyodiy.com will give you the part numbers for this toyota rotors. its actually 338mm for the 17" rims..
i got replacement rotors from autoanything. the power stop z23 have been doing quit well for the last 2 years.

This is not correct, you can have 17" wheels and still have the smaller rotors or the larger rotors, the only way to know for sure is look for the letters stamped on the calipers and or measure the rotor, I would measure the rotor which is a sure way to know which size you have!!

Even using a VIN number search on some parts websites can mislead you when it comes to the rotor size!

Other than perhaps better heat dissipation due to more mass and larger surface area, I don't really see the point. I'm not a mechanical engineer though so maybe I'm missing something.
The point you are missing my friend is leverage.

The further out you can position that same size pad, the more leverage it has using the same two pistol caliper.

The load it has to stop is (W)
The rotor is (F)
The 2 pistol caliper is (P)

The larger rotor allows the caliper to work more efficiently. Using less effort to do the same job and therefore increasing your overall breaking headroom.

The 13WH calipers are I think the originals so I am leaning towards maybe just swapping to the 13WL or 13WG calipers and 319mm rotors. Reading the threads on here I cannot see anyone having done a conversion that way but a few have gone from 319s to 338s. Is there any reason it would not work? The smaller size should give the extra clearance between the rim and the rotor.
I believe the rears are all the same so I reckon I just need fronts.
Hi, what did you end up doing? I have rims available to me and wondering is the downsizing worked.

While I was looking for a good set of calipers/rotors a friend with a Tacoma offered me what I paid for the rims so I let them go.

Some clues to look for?

Have your dust shields been modified (or replaced), the smaller shields would interfere with the larger rotor, if not pushed away...?

Did you run the VIN on the Toyota site to see if 16" wheels came with the truck, or the 17" option?

Thumbs up Thanks for this inof

The info below was extremely helpful in determining the rotor size I need. I am ~1500 miles away from the vehicle and needed to determine what rotors to order when I go to work on the my 4Runner. The Toyota help line and local dealer could not determine rotor size by the VIN. This info allowed me to figure it out and I'll order parts before I leave.

Thanks!

13WH- 13.3"/338mm rotor diameter
13WL- 12.6"/319mm rotor diameter
13WG- 12.6"/319mm rotor diameter
