Buyer Guide!!

This section does not have any buyer guides for this generation as in the section of the third generation 4Runners?

i was going to suggest this also. if the title could be modified to something pertaining to potential owners i think it would clean up the section a whole lot.

no more "what do you guys think about this" threads, they could all just post in here and have veterans answer. many other forums have a sticky for just n00b questions.

just my .02

well joe you have the right idea but it would never work. people are always gonna chime in asking about lifts and tires, and there has been a sticky about those for the longest. noobs are gonna be noobs.

The buyer's guide would be helpful for those who are thinking of buying a 4th Generation 4Runner. At least one thread with manufacturing defects

you are corect berretta, but if it was an eye-catching enough title it may save a few threads. just my experience from other forums. noobs will always be noobs but it might be worth a shot. although some of them are entertaining to read .

"Ask questions about lift/tires here..."
"Ask questions about buying a 4Runner here..."

I know the thread about lift aims to do that but the title may push newer users away because they just overlook it and it doesnt directly register.

who knows, slow day at work.

You mean like this? Hands down the most comprehensive one I've found, no need to reprint, just link.

Multi-Gen Buyers Guide
While it is a good collection of specs, its hardly a good guide for used 4runner insider knowledge.

From my little-to-no knowledge of 4th gens, a 4th gen guide should be fairly simple.

Im NOT asking for answers to these, just starting to make a list of what a possible 4th gen guide should have..

Known problems are what? The brakes freeze up, what causes this and on what specific trim of 4runners? That's all I ever see you guys b*tching about, lol. Cracked headers, was that just on the V8? what else?

Cover what trim packages there were and what they came with, this will be many new people's first time hearing of the '09 Trail Ed.

What is X-reas and which models had it? Explain how it affects lifting options maybe.

It changed in '06 right? what all came with that? Projector headlights, LED tails, new grill, bumper and fenders, what else?

Advantages/ disadvantages to V6/V8. Belt vs Chain, MPG, power, reliability, parts, etc..

The drivetrains are one thing that I would like more info on though..
From what I think I know,
-All V8's (assume 4wd equipped) have FULL TIME All-wheel drive with lockable center diff for 4x4, correct?
-The V6's (again assume 4wd equipped) have selectable All-wheel drive and lockable center diff for 4x4, correct?
-Did the limited have a different setup than the SR5's and stuff?

Toss in a bunch of links and some pretty fonts and colors, and you have a buyers' guide! Now go my pretties, write!

.

.

Yes, I realize most of that info is in the above link, but the problem is new people will NEVER find that page unless we direct them to it. And the only way they can see us directing them without having them post a new thread is with a clearly labeled buyers guide. Plus it makes it easy for them when the buyers guide gives them the cliff notes and not all of toyota's fancy adjectives. Even with a Buyers guide sticky in the 4th gen section, you will still get new threads from people looking for 4runners. But it will cut down on them a lot!

Correct. No difference in trims.

I think 4-Ripcord already told everything. Of course it was he who organized the buyers guide third generation, helped me a lot when I was restoring my 1998 4Runner forgotten lol. I think the experts could take an example and do the same in this generation.

Thoughts on this?

Looking for my first 4Runner. Daily commuter and weekend adventurer. I've always been psyched on the idea of 4wd. This one is a 98, 184k, $5400.
