2004 6 cyl, 135K miles, same song from Toyota-Tiny violin

For me, the cracks don't matter. What does matter is the stench that's emitted in hot weather, windows open or not, and kept under cover, not in the sun. Hits me like a wall when I open the truck. Basically, I bought a truck I can't drive because it gives me a headache and makes me nauseous (gag). More than an enhancement, the chemicals released are likely toxins. That should reopen the case, eh? But who to prove it?

I could smell it when I bought the truck, but thought it was the woman selling it to me, so drenched in perfume was she and there were assorted "air fresheners" hidden here and there, but it's the dash gas. Poison.

Was that just labor or does that include the new dash? I don’t have a problem doing the dash myself (and a friend for help) but I’m not so sure on getting a used one to throw in just to have it crack again.

Odd. My dealer gave me a price of about 2800.00 said it took about 11 hours.

Windshield cracked

Thanks for the info. My toyota 4R 2018 ltd bought 8 moths aho has developed a crack in the windshield. I think the glass is too big or of poor quality. My vehicle is under warranty. My insurance said i would have to shell our 500 before they shell out 323. The quote given by dealer is 823/-
That hurts.

This topic is about cracked dashboards not windshields, there are several topics about window glass on this forum, and not to mention that this is the 4th Gen section and you have a 5th Gen, so you're even posting in the wrong forum!

That being said get a aftermarket windshield, you can probaly get one for around $200 to $250 or even less, no reason to pay that great amount for an OEM windshield!!

When I had my dash pad replaced, I dropped it off at the dealer at 7:30am and they called me at 12:00 noon to say the job was done.

I never use any Armorall or any other chemicals on the dash. About 3 or 4 years ago it developed a 6" crack on the dash above the glove box. I paid an interior guy around $150 to fix it, thinking it was a random thing. Over the last 6 months i have cracks going all over my dash. Since mine is an '03, it is way out of warranty, but this is still unacceptable. Obviously this is a default in the dash material.

I just called the Customer Relations number and opened a Claim. After going through the whole deal, the guy said there wasn't any information from Toyota on this issue, so they couldn't do anything. He did say that if there was more claims towards this issue Toyota would be taking note and would probably do something. At this point all we can do is try with a joint effort.

If you have any issues with your dashboard cracking, without any previous damage, and would like to try to get it fixed call this number.

Defroster vent

I will most likely replace my dash this year.
Does anyone know if the front windshield defroster vent comes with the dashboard.
Or is it a separate piece? Hard to put in?

Noticed mine looks like some paint is coming off. Can see some white in certain areas.

Dont want all the expense and trouble for a new dash and then have this one piece look bad.

Not sure if they sell paint to match and if that is an option.

Thanks

The whole thing is awful. I have 50000 on my 4Runner and when I got it it was stored in some older man's garage for years. And when I start using it after I bought it there's also a 6 inch crack above the dash. Not only this but crazy rust has developed.

Where do you live? The rust doesn’t just develop on its own. Mine is 16 years old and is pretty much rust free

Edit....from the looks of one of your other posts where your truck is surrounded by snow, i assume you live in an area where the roads are treated. I suspect this would be the cause of your "crazy rust"....

As asked where do you live and how long have you owned it?

Is this surface rust or is it scaly and flaky?
