You still don't bother to mention WHEN the dealer did it - most likely within the extended warranty period. It's not up to the dealership, it's entirely up to Toyota and they are adamant about the cutoff date so congratulations, you had it done within the extended coverage, many of us did not.

The T Dealer replaced mine 5 years ago. Didn't have to ask anything. Cost me nothing.

2005 SR5 144,000 miles V6

Original tranny. Never had an overheat.
never had a check engine light or Creader Code to read

You really don't understand how this worked - Toyota extended the warranty on ALL early 4th gen 4Runners until May 31, 2017 and IF your dash started cracking within that period, they would replace it. Once the end of the extended warranty passed, it was a dead deal no matter what a dealership may have wanted to do (unless they wanted to pay the $1600 out of their pocket which did not happen). For many of us, the dash did not start cracking until after the extension and so we were out of luck. Yours started cracking before May 31, 2017 and so Toyota paid for it. No one did you any special favors, you just had the problem within the scope of the extended warranty. I'm reading all of this right off the notification from Toyota.

It also covered Avalon, Camry, Sienna and Solara vehicles. Some of these are still covered since the problem was as late as the 2011 model year. For the 4Runner, it was only the 2003-2005 model years.

Let me clarify my date to be exact here: NOVEMBER 11, 2017 again.... still not EXTENDED WARRANTY. Maybe you should try another dealer because a buddy of mine just picked up a 4th gen 2 weeks ago and they fixed his dash as well and it is a 2006

What's the name of your dealer? I'd drive a couple of hours to get a free dash replacement

Huh, that's really strange since you didn't own the vehicle until July of 2019 - at least according to your own posts back in July where you just bought the truck. Perhaps there was a receipt for it being replaced in November of 2017 by the previous owner is what you meant to say. If the previous owner reported the issue by the end date of 05/31/2017 and it took until November of 2017 to get the parts in and installed, it was still under the warranty program. There was waiting period for the parts and then availability for the dealership to do the job so could have stretched out to November. But I seriously doubt you had it done since you didn't own the truck at the time you specify and perhaps your buddy bought his from a dealership with the requirement that it be replaced as part of the deal. No dealership stepped up and arbitrarily ate $1600 in costs because they thought you or your buddy deserved special treatment.

Nope, he supplied me with the service paper where it was a "no charge". Took it in a week before the fix date... Still doesn't change the fact my buddy just bought his and they replaced his too so IDK man, some are better than others I guess LOL

So you didn't have it done as you previously claimed, the prior owner did and he probably filed the complaint before the expiration or maybe he was buying a new $40,000 4Runner and made that part of the deal. And your buddy negotiated the repair as part of his willingness to buy the car - again, not a special favor. You can claim all you want that the dealer did someone (unclear who) a favor but they flat out didn't unless it was for a large fleet buyer (previous owner of yours maybe) and they sucked up the cost to preserve the relationship. They didn't sink $1600 into an individual buying cheap used vehicles unless it was a condition of the sale (which means they made a lot more than $1600 on the sale).

Ive got a small crack developing in my 2005. You cant really see it unless you are looking for it. Wish I joined in on the recall to get it replaced.

There’s a company called Coverlay at coverlaymfg.com that makes an after market slip over for the dash. A friend bought it and it looks great. Check YouTube for installation, it looks easy. I had mine done at the dealer during the recall.

New here.
I have 2003 Sport and recently noticed a couple hairline cracks, one on either side above glovebox. Never used products on it, no dogs riding shotgun, always parked in garage.
I too see this as a distressing development that takes down the value and enjoyment...especially when it’s been well cared for.

My 2003 has many cracks as I bought this vehicle after it was found in a storage container after being there for 8 years. Lots of cracks but last registered in 2008. Love it but has many cracks. Looking to put seat heaters in it. fixing it up. drives great with the new tires, wheels, rotors nd calipers, tune-up and is in near new condition.
