This is also an issue with the GX470. There is a 5+ page thread over at clublexus from a few years ago.

I had a few small cracks on my '03, but none on my '06 yet. Has anyone had any luck applying products to prevent this (that isn't Armor All)?

There was some stuff i know people had tried, but i personally don't think it is a good idea to put anything on your dash.

I have used a product from TOYOTA called ""smart cleaning products" its PH balanced and provides a UV protection and is also recommended by TOYOTA.
I think its amazing because its so easy to use and is HONESTLY NON GREASY $3-$10 per bottle.
I checked my 03 Sport and (WHew!) no cracks yet!!
Good luck all!

From my research I believe I read at some point Toyota changed the dash composite mid 04ish I could be wrong. I know my sister has an 04 that stays in the sun all day and it has no sign of any cracks

I think that is correct. Sucks because it will hurt the resale value of all those with cracks, no matter how well we have taken care of them.....

I will say that mine (and I believe many others) seemed to have happened almost overnight. I didn't have a single crack, then all the sudden I noticed a 3-4" one right about the radio bezel. The big one that goes over the gauge cluster developed in 1-2 days, I had no previous signs. All I can say is hope it doesn't happen to you, because as momo said, it's gonna kill our resale value.

I also have one, it isn't terribly noticeable and I thought it was a seam when it first noticed it, due to the location, but it is large. It runs all the way across the dash above the cluster along the furthest protruding edge, as I said, almost where a seam could be (if there were a seam).
Not sure when it happened or if it was all at once or slow, due to where it is. It may have even been there when I bought it.
I bought a dash mat that fits relatively well but ends right where the crack is, so I don't use it. btw if anyone wants a charcoal gray dash mat PM me

The first one was a few years ago. I thought (and blamed) my wife for putting her feet on my dash. all the others happened in the last 6 months. Some were over night. If it would mess up the deployment of the airbag, i would just plasti-dip the entire dash.....lol

Wait so you want to mess up the deployment of your airbag?
I wouldn't think plastidip would keep the bag from deploying but I'm also not sure it would seal the cracks.

If you coat it on thick enough you wouldn't see the cracks.
