Took mine by a local dealer this afternoon. Told the service guy what I needed, and he came out and wrote down some info. He looked at the dash for ~1.5 seconds and said "yeah we'll replace that...let me go see my parts guy to see if we have them." Sure enough, he came back out and said they have a couple and can swap it out tomorrow and have it ready for me tomorrow afternoon if I wanted to leave it. I was caught off guard honestly, so I made arrangements and dropped it back off with the night drop.

Replacement
I got my 04 4runner V8 with 173k on it about a year ago. It has the exact same cracks along the dash as everyone elses. I tried to call the dealership today to start the process, gave them my VIN and they said mine wasn't covered? I never got anything in the mail but it seems like everyone else just called in and got it replaced with no problem. Is it considered a recall or warranty replacement? Also, is there some code that you can give them so they know what you are trying to get done?

I wouldn't call the dealership, i would go to the dealership so they can actually see it. That way you have a leg to stand on with the Service Manager or even the owner of the dealership.

Yeah, I gotta annoyed with the phone so I just took it in person and it took 5 secs with them. They got VIN saw it was cracked and was like oh wow, sign this paper, it will be ready in a week or 2.
It's strange the the customer service for the dealership has no idea of it though. I feel bad for other people who were told they weren't apart of the recall.

Yes a very few got lucky and just called in, but it's best if you want it done is to be proactive and take it in and let a service rep take a look at it, that's their job and they know what to do, when you call you most likely are getting/talking to a secretary/receptionist that doesn't know very much if anything about all the recalls and warranty enhancement programs.

Went to Toyota on May 15th to get the process started, they called the next day and the dashboard was in. Scheduled appointment for today and all is done.

Well this is good timing?
I've been seeing this thread for years and had the first letter sent out about this stored away. I though I'd be free and clear since my 2005's dash had no signs of cracking.
Well, on the drive home today, what do I happen to notice? A good size 4 inch crack on the passenger side.
Now I'll have to find time to unplug some mods before I take it in.
For those of you that have had this repair done, how long do they normally have to keep your car in the shop? It's my daily and only car, so I'm hoping it's a fairly quick repair if scheduled.

They said it would take all day, but they called back about 4 hours later when it was finished.

OK, my turn. After reading bad service reviews on most of the Toyota dealers here I went to Red McCombs and it was interesting, very high tech. The service writer had a tablet computer and took a picture of my DL, the door jamb VIN, and the cracked dash. Unable to provide me with any hard copy. Said they have done thousands and had thousands more to do.

Doesn't really matter how fast it spreads it should matter to you that the extended recall is about to expire for you! I got mine put in this last weekend, they had my Runner from 8am Friday till 9 am Monday gsveme a crappy RAV4 for the weekend. I was told my recall ends in 31 May as in Tomorrow! Now I'm not sure if that's for xx-xx but was told on my 03 it was over so not sure if you 04 will fall into that same basket but may be worth a call and havethem run your vin, a lot of times if you get in the system and get started you will be grandfathered in! Also after fighting with corporate on mine - my dash was ordered on a Monday and arrived on the following Monday! That right there tells me it is nearing the end!

Finally got my dash installed , Scott Clark toyota in charlotte NC did a great job. Put a master tech on this and seemed to be practiced in handling these replacements. New dash looks and feels awesome. My cracks advanced faster with garage storage since I haven't been daily driving. Still cant believe toyota put a new dash in a 14 year old vehicle! Finally unsubscribing to this thread as well. Best of luck to everyone else in getting there replacements. It takes forever just put the order in and wait you will eventually get it.

I had a crack about that same length for a year or so and then within a week I had them all over my dash.
