Oh really? I own a 4th gen 2004. I've had it for a year and through one winter in New England. The guy I got it from also lived in New England in the city. But he didn't use it much because there is only 50000 miles on it. It would make sense though because they're always salting the roads here. Here's the Imgur link. The second picture is from the engine bay and there's a whole on the bottom. And the Skid plate was removed because it rotted off.

I live in New England and I've owned it for a year. The guy I got it from also lived in New England. Here are some images. The skid plate was cut off because it was rotting and hitting my tire. And the second image is from the top of the engine bay and there's a whole at the bottom.

I'm only seeing the first image, the one of the drive shaft area...but I find it hard to imagine that the rust I see all happened in one year, but without seeing much more of the frame it doesn't seem to be too bad from the one photo, but that area is not where the worst of most rust starts and get really bad, the radiator support cross member is one of the first areas that gets the most rust and in some of the worst cases needs to be replaced.

That being said I would start now doing something about it to protect it from here on out, I would have it sandblasted or do it myself and then paint all of the frame I could followed by a rust treatment, also make sure that the inside of the frame is flushed in some manner to remove any debris let it dry out and then get as much rust protection in there as possible and then doing a annual re-treatment before every winter, this way you should keep it from rusting much more.

Okay I was definitely planning on doing something similar. And no it definitely isn’t from one year. I was thinking of cleaning underneath it. Wire brushing the whole thing and then putting rust converter and then putting rustoleum paint on it. Not sure what parts I can and can’t do it to though.

I truly wish a frame recall would happen. All one has to do is drive around behind the shop at your local stealership and see all of the rusted out and the new frames sitting there.

I had mine replaced under warranty. But I think last year Toyota pulled the plug on the manufacture recall warranty replacement. It's a shame.....cause I was the 3rd owner. Wish they still replaced these dashes.

You can get one for much less at Rockauto than you can from that Ebay seller!!

I read a post of a person buying and installing this Coverlay dash. Not sure if it was on here. But they were very please and recommended it. Said easy install, fit well and looked good. Been considering getting one myself.

Put one on 6-9 months ago, very happy with it. Easy to install, looks OEM and you really have to look twice to know it's not the real dashboard you are looking at. Cheap and easy fix.

I had to resort to a dash cover on a hopelessly cracked dash on a Chrylser 300 in a previous life. I very recently acquired an almost pristine 2004 4Runner Limited that was babied by its previous (original) owner but has a hairline crack along the lip that creates the front edge over the instrument panel. A little black silicone sealant, a little masking tape and a lot of patience worked for me

Can somebody help me identify the color of the dash and door panels that looks like a very very dark blue, almost black. I ordered a coverlay dash in "dark blue" but it's still too light... significantly lighter. I talked to Rockauto, they said it is the correct one for dark blue. It's not a black dash and door panels. I swear on everything it looks lime a very deep dark blue. I'm assuming others here have the same color. What the heck is it called??
