Just purchased the 4Runner in the sig this weekend and pretty excited about it. My wife and I have been looking at 4th gens for a while to replace her faithful 2007 Mazda 3. We finally found one with the options she wanted and this one only had 25K miles and some change! This one was traded in at a local Ford dealer on a new Explorer. One local owner with a clean history and only needs some floor mats. (Weathertechs on order!) We looked at several SR5's but none of the lower mileage ones in the area had a sun roof. I was lusting for a V8, but drove this one and was completely satisfied by the V6. Pretty gutsy and not what I expected. Besides, we have my old 95 Dodge Cummins for hauling. I look forward from learing from the site and hope to be a benefit as well at some point.
Unfortunately, being that it's the wife's ride, it's going to stay relatively stock. Only plans so far are to upgrade the stock 265/65/17 Bridgestones for some 265/70's when they finally wear out. Looks to be half tread or better, so it's going to be a while.
My only issue is the Runner seems to have been smoked in at one time. No burns, but there is the slight odor of smoke. Any good tricks for removing smoke smell?

could try baking soda all over the carpet (and cloth seats if you have them) then vacuum 24 hours later. Perhaps some kind of charcoal device would work. Also change the cabin filter asap to a charcoal one.
had the same issue when i bought mine . this is what i did. baking soda on carpet, floor mats and seats left on for several days then vacuumed. swapped out the cabin filter for a charcoal one. shampooed the floor mats, carpet, headliner and seats. cleaned interior plastics and glass. laid out several bowls of vinager inside truck for several days. i now have no more smoke smell.
