First car purchase.

So I just made my first car purchase, a 2007 4Runner Sports Edition fully loaded 4wd V8. It's silver which definitely wasn't my first choice in colors but was a good deal. Now that this is over I am so relieved and can get to modding which is most important. Here is my mod list which I plan on doing over the course of the next week:

Suspension: Going to go with the Radflo 2.5 set up hopefully with the OW specs, assuming the guy I talk to on the phone at Radflo know what those specs are and whatever rear shocks they recommend with 3' Eibach springs should hopefully give me a nice level lift.

Wheels/Tires: Going with the Method Race Wheels "the standard" black wheels 16x8 and DuraTrac 305/70R16's.

Also going to order a shrockworks front bumper and a baja rack to go on top.

Now I have a few questions:

1. What size wheel spacers do I need for that set up, everyone seems to have different sizes and I don't know the difference?

2. If anyone knows a better rear suspension set up thats still affordable I am open to all suggestions. Probably going to off road 3 to 4 times a week.

3. I really want to paint my badges black, is that hard to do?

4. Obviously I am going to need to chop my body mounts, does anyone know someone in SoCal that could do it for a reasonable price?

Pretty stoked to see this all come together hopefully I can get these mods done in the 6k range. Will post some pics after I get the suspension and wheels done.

Am I going to need a body lift?

Only issue I see is that 16s don't fit the sport edition rotors :wow:

wow thats such a bust. how much are new rotors?

You'd have to buy new calipers rotors and backingplate way cheaper to get 17s

And where can I get them?

1 - If you're buying new wheels, just buy some with 0 or negative offset and you won't need wheel spacers.

2 - "better" is relative I think. Radflo should be good, I personally have the full Radflo (OW) 2.0 setup although I haven't installed the rear coils since I'm not trying to get bigger tires right now. If you want Radflo front, I'd recommend the back too so it matches. Also I've read that the guys at Radflo have the OW specs so getting that setup shouldn't be a problem.

3 - No, you can leave em on the truck and plastidip em or use a heat gun or blow dryer to heat the adhesive and pull them off. That's what I did to mine, after painting I just heated the glue on the truck and the glue on the emblems to get it gooey and stuck em back on. This way kept me from buying new adhesive, and also allowed me to easily put them back where they go without playing with alignment.

4 - Not me.. If you don't get results here, check toyota120.com, at least 50% of their active membership is in CA.

edit- the OW spec stuff has been tested on 4runners on & off road by the OW guys for years and it's the only suspension valved specifically for 4runners. Everything else is made for FJs.

Get some 17x8 wheels. Research and get the offset that doen't require spacers. I'm using 17 2011 FJ wheels and their offset is perfect and let me get rid of my spacers. Found 'em on the FJ forum $500 for 5.

Get 285/70/17 tires. 305's are too big. The 285's will still rub a bit.

You can chop the body mount yourself with an angle grinder (get a decent $100 one like dewalt/milwaukee, a few 1/8" cutting wheels, and a clear plastic face shield and gloves.
