I just bought a 4th Gen and I need some advice...

Greeting all.

My name is Tom and I just purchased an '06. It is my second 4Runner. I had a 3rd Gen that was totaled a few weeks ago when I collided with a cow that wondered onto the highway while I was on a fishing trip..... Anyway it could have ended a lot worse but luckily I was able to trade in a bad day for a nicer rig.

I am interested in buying an aftermarket bumper, I see that ARB might be my only option and I was wondering if anyone had other ideas. Also I need to know if an ARB bumper will increase the length of my vehicle. I have a short garage and she barely fits as is.

Also I am looking to get an aftermarket radio that had iPhone and XM capabilities. Does anyone have some advice on this?

Lastly I am looking for some switches that will fit into the open switch panel to run some extra off-road lighting. Any ideas?

There's lots of bumper options out there. I've seen shrockworks is one of the more popular along with demello offroad. CBI is coming out with a new 4th gen front one pretty soon. ARB is probably one of the least popular but it's totally your choice. I kinda like the ARB or demello are my favs.

Many people use fj fog light switches for the blanks but they are spendy like 40 bucks for a dang switch. But it does fit perfectly. As for radio, tons of options and I don't really have an opinion either way on that... Good luck an congrats on the new ride!

Congratulations on your purchase and good to hear the accident didn't end too badly.

What setty said pretty much sums it up.

Shrockworks, Demelleo, ARB, & CBI (in order of popularity) are the main ones.

Perkins Performance, Aluminess, and few other brands also make them but aren't as popular.

I'm not sure but I think any aftermarket bumper is going to increase the length a bit due to the winch carrier, but I could be wrong. I wouldn't imagine it would be more than a few inches either way.

As far as aftermarket radios go, almost everything midlevel head unit works with iPhone and XM now. You need to talk more about what you want, i.e. double/single din, DVD, GPS, etc. But there are a ton of options for everything. I personally like Alpine and Kenwood, but other people like Sony and Pioneer, and other brands.

The FJ light switches are about $45/each on trdsparks.com, pricey but they look OEM (because they are). Other people cut the hole out a little and use OTRATTW switches, they're a lot cheaper can be custom labeled for their intended purpose.

Welcome to the 4th gen, glad your run in with the cow didn't end too badly. I think the Demello and Shrockworks will add the LEAST amount of length, the ARB's I've seen seem to protrude significantly more than others, though that observation is based solely on sight. As far as switches go, OEM do look good but a popular choice I've seen is using marine grade rocker switches. They look good, are super heavy duty and are around half the cost of OEM. I can't really help you in the radio depeartment other than to say that Eclipse units integrate with the Toyota wiring harness with nothing additional required. I think they went out of business but their high end nav units can still be found NIB on eBay for around $800.
