K&N Install

Just finished my K&N Install, easy to do no biggie.

Impressions:
- First day, loved it!
- Second day, perhaps I'm too old for all this noise... Still debating to keep it or not. The factory one is so quiet and nice (albeit not authoritative).

Is it an increase in engine sound or just rushing air?

I'm interested to find out how you like it over the next couple of weeks. I've been debating whether or not to install one, if it's truly worth the price for the added "intake noise" and if it helps anything at all.
Does the K&N only offer the "wet" filter for the CAIs? I want to find one without an oiled filter.

Mostly engine noise. (Growl) Not the sound of air being sucked through a straw (anyone who had an intake on a Civic know what I am talking about).

On the filter, idk, just ordered a new "wet" one from Amazon.

So it sounds like the only option for the K&N CAI is a wet filter, right? Did it come with a wet or pre-oiled filter? Thanks for the help!

the filter should come with oil.. Then every month or whenever when you go to clean it, Buy the K&N Re-charger kit that comes with special cleaner and oil to Re-treat the pink/red fabric or whatever it is that makes the cone

The issue with oil based filters is that they can foul up the MAF sensor.

I've had my K&N for about 7 years. Sounds better, but not much improvement with mileage or power imo. As far as fouling my MAF, hasn't happened yet. I do let the filter dry for a hour or two before running the motor. One thing I had to do was add a piece of 1/8 thick piece of rubber, cut out to fit under the filter to eliminate the tapping noise of the chrome cap on the filter bouncing off the mounting bolt directly under it. The rubber on the filter will breakdown/weaken and allow the filter to bounce a bit. It actually sounded like a loose shock when it first started on my runner. Other than that I'm pretty happy with the CAI.

I love it, but yes when you gun it it absolutely sounds MUCH louder for obvious reasons. look at the giant hunk of plastic you took off, it is a giant baffle system which was designed to cut down on noise, which then cuts down on airflow. You replaced that with a straight pipe with no baffle system so you get more air, more power, and better MPG. But it WILL be louder, only when you gun it though, not in normal city driving conditions, just at or above about 4,000rpms.

I love mine, but I do understand how some people would dislike the sound. It can be loud...

You make it seem like you gained a bazillion HP. You gained a few, if any.

No I am pretty sure it was a bazillion...

I see you are still BS'ing your way around the forum...LOLOL

To the OP,

You should gain right around 13hp on a V8: http://www.knfilters.com/news/news.aspx?id=468

On a v6 you gain about 9hp: http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...x?Prod=63-9023

I haven't done the full CAI, but i did do the K&N drop in filter. I also removed the filter in the top portion of the airbox. I have noticed a difference in the sound of the engine as well as smoother shifts when acelerating. I don't know if it really has changed anything regarding MPG's (may have gove down, cuz I love the sounds and in turn give it more gas)

If you decide you are too old and take it out PM me, may be willing to take it off your hands.

Looks good!

I installed a complete K&N kit in my Nissan Frontier. Along with several other MPG increasing mods. My hiway milage went from 22 to 26 MPG. That was after several mods not just the filter.
My in town milage did not change.
What you will find with most of the MPG improving modifications is it has an impact on mid range performance more than low range.

I put over 50,000 miles on the filter, cleaning it 4 times and never had an issue with the MAF.

There is a noise increase.

On my 4Runner I installed a K&N filter not the complete intake kit. I like the stock box over the K&N box so I am using it.

There is a increase in noise from the filter but it is not bad.
