Part time or full time 4WD ?

I'm looking at a 2003 SR5 4 wheel drive. Are the V6 sr5's part time and the V8's are full time 4WD?

TIA

They also make the V8 in just 2wd, but all the 4wd V8's are full time 4WD.

You can do that with the V8 as well, hell you can run both in 4lo on dry pavement as long as the center diff isn't locked

V8 4x4 only has 4hi and 4lo. No 2hi like the V6's

Depends how you use the term "part-time". This chart should make it clear.

Take out the center diff on the v6 and there is no difference between it and traditional part time 4wd.

Maybe its just me but this post is a little confusing with how the terms part time and full time are used. Both the V6 and the V8 are full time systems, its just that the V8 is engaged full time and the V6 is not, although it can be. Both systems have a lockable torsen diff in the transfer case, the V6 just has a 2wd has the normal setting.

If you can select 2wd it's part time 4wd simple as that.

You're right. The term part-time has a traditional definition but it also has been used around here to refer to the V6 4th gen which is why I included the chart for the OP, so he was clear on how the V6 works regardless of how it's named.
