New 05 4Runner rearended by tractor trailer...news at 11...

Well...my nice shiny black 05 Runner of only 3 months old was rearended on Friday by a nice BIG orange 18 wheeler. We were both stopped getting onto a rotary and he apparently thought that I had gone when he hit the gas and found that I didn't move. He pushed me about 15 feet while I had my brakes on. Broke my drivers seat and put a nice hole into my bumper from his tow hook in the front. Surprisingly, thats all the damage that I can see. It was taken to the shop right afterwards because I could get it in so no pics. After I got out I was thinking I wouldn't have a bumper anymore but it held up very well.
I was given a Ford F-150 truck to drive. What a piece of crap. How in hell are these the best selling trucks year after year. They have nice pickup but they are so loud and just don't drive well. I apologize to anyone that is a Ford fan. My Runner should be fixed in about 4 days or so. Maybe they will be able to fix my rocking drivers seat now that I bent the hell out of it. My poor baby...I was more concerned about my truck than I was myself but I am ok.

Dude, that sucks! I have had my '05 T4R for about 1 month. I was sitting first at a red light last week, and someone in a pick up truck came flying up behind me on their cell phone. It didn't look like they were paying any attention, and there was no where for me to go, so I just cringed and waited for the boom. Fortunately she (turned out to be a woman in and F150, oddly enough) jerked into the shoulder at the last second and flew by me. She managed to stop 6 feet INTO the intersection, and was hit by a car coming the other direction. Phew!!!!! That was a close one. I thought my poor truck was going to buy it. Sorry you weren't as lucky!!!!

Glad to hear you're ok but I am definitely worried about your seat breaking!!! OMG that's definitely NOT GOOD.

I would definitely have toyota look into that as the seat should not break during an accident unless it's a total loss.

Just showing some concern. Hope the body shop is using OEM stuff

It's because the same owners have to buy a new truck each year after the other truck breaks down and can't be repaired. They don't learn from thier mistakes and they keep buying the same truck again and again and again.

At least you weren't hurt, though I hope you got checked out by a doctor just in case.

I too once was rear ended by a semi. I know instinctively you want to slam on the brakes when you get hit, but boy was it a mistake for me. The semi bumped me and I went forward a bit then the truck hit me again and kept pushing me until I realized I had my foot on the brake.

The sound I remember most was the sound of rubber just scraping the asphalt... and looking in my rear view and seeing that big arse grill! I couldn't sleep that night

I was told from my stealer that Toyota designs the seats to take the impact when a crash happens and that the seat will not break completely but it will bend. I don't know, thats what they claimed. Hopefully they will just order me a new seat. Probably about 3-4 days worth of work. I am out of my element with the Ford, I didn't realize how much I LOVED my Toyota til I didn't have it.

Many years ago I was rear ended while in my '81 Corolla, the seat slid backwards a good distance until it jammed and I figure that this helped cushion the effects of the impact on my body.
