Google Earth

If you haven't already checked out google earth, it's awesome. If any of the trails you run or plan on running are captured with the high res mode, it's a very helpful tool for determining the terrain of a given trail. This program overlaps topo maps with high res satellite images (enough to resolve cars and bushes) to give a detailed 3D view of the terrain. You can rotate maps, change your elevation, and move around in a very fluid manner. It only works on PCs right now, but they have a mac version in the works.

I'll have to give it try. I gave up trying to run keyhole. None of the fixes listed on the website would let me log-in. I hope I can get Earth to run.

Even the plain-jane Google satellite map is pretty impressive.

I've gave Google Earth quite a workout after it came out last month...it's very well done...being able to "fly" from Death Valley to say, Virginia Beach, is neat. Or to be able to fly down the Florida west coast at 3000' feet, from Tampa to Sanibel and beyond...just amazing!
