Urban Runner aftermarket radio and steering wheel controls, HELP!

I recently had a Kenwood DNX7190HD installed in my 2009 Urban Runner. The TomTom Toyota was the worst stock hu I've ever owned. What a POS!

Anyway, the new radio is awesome. It looks like it came stock in the Runner.

I had it installed at a local car audio place here in Springfield, MO. They spent three hours total trying to figure out the steering wheel controls, unsuccessfully. They gave up and told me to, "just use the remote that came with the radio." BS! I want my steering wheel controls to work.

The entire install was a cluster. They said they had never seen such a wacky radio. They also said it was like the vehicle was built around the radio due to it's weird set up.

I've searched the web, multiple sites, and even this board for assistance with my steering wheel controls. Has this ever been figured out? I purchased a PAC SWI-RC jack. As I said earlier, the installers worked on it for hours and couldn't figure it out. Thanks in advance for your help!

I had bookmarked this link: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/audio-...formation.html for when i get around to replacing my Tom Tom. I haven't gone through the entire thread, but it addresses the steering wheel control issues.

Thanks. I found that thread earlier when I was searching. Should I take a print out of the thread and the .pdf file of the wiring diagram to the installers?

Stereo Install on 2009 Urban Runner

Hi just installed this JVC KW-AV70BT Double DIN 7" Touch Panel Monitor Car Receiver in my 2008 4runner. What I used to retain the factory steering wheel controls were these 2 harnesses

ASWC STEERING WHEEL CONTROL INTERFACE $41.99 EBay

METRA 70-8114 TOYOTA STEERING WHEEL CONTROL HARNESS $8.50 Ebay

Very easy to install, use the Metra harness to eliminate cutting and splicing any wires to your factory harnesses. It eliminates the big wiring cluster with the ASWC. There are 4 wires and a couple of RCA inputs to connect. Plugs right in to the 3rd factory harness.

Wired all together. turned on the power and the ASWC self programmed
ZERO issues and I am a novice installer.

Hope this helps

Hope this helps

I had a hell of a time getting my steering wheel controls to work as well with my kenwood unit. Do you have the steering wheel control adapter? if so the Kenwood HU's latest update screwed up the code and requires you to have the "remote" turned on in the HU for the steering wheel controls to work even though the manual says to have it off. We figured it out but contacted kenwood to find out why anyway.

Exclamation Easy and cheap

I've read this forum and I liked it enough to make and account and on the subject of the steering wheel control I've found the easyest solution,

ASWC Steering wheel control + 70-8114 harness select Toyota/Lexus 03-up vehicles (eBay)

This kit will fit 4runners from 03' to 10'. I hope this helpfull!

The PAC SWI is great. Has be precisely programmed as per instructions. I was having a hard time but once I got it, it was a breeze. Had mine in and out a couple of times changing things and had to do it over and had no problems. That first time though....
PAC support is easy to get a hold of and they'll work with you. If it's all installed, I'd pull the HU myself and call them and get them to walk you through it. Read the instructions yourself first.
