That sounds probable, I know in my 08 even with lights off, all instrument lights are on and intensity can be changed with the dash knob. The Climate Control is backlit but the intensity can only be changed with the lights on,

So if the OP's is wired like yours. Then all he has to do is get a couple new bulbs. Case closed.

Unhappy Climate control panel doesn't light up at night

Hi everyone,

I know this thread is old, but I'm having the exact same problem as the original person that posted this. My mpg screen lights up fine as long as my headlights are off, but at night, when I turn the headlights on, the backlight on it turns off completely. Has anyone (or the original poster if by any chance he is still here) solved this?

Thanks!

This problem is real

I have the exact same problem as OP. I will attach images of the headlights off with both lcd screens backlit, and headlights on with only the radio backlit. LCDs are backlit during the day and off at night and the button lights won’t illuminate where the text is. I just replaced all the bulbs and this is how it works. Before replacing the bulbs the climate control lcd would never have backlighting. The first image is headlights off, the second is headlights on. Please send help for this very real issue

UPDATE SOLVED: I found that the dimmer switch for the days lights was disconnected. I reconnected it and everything works! I imagine if this is happening to anyone that the dimmer switch could be broken/disconnected. Hope this helps

Angry LCD light causing drain?

Is the LCD display on a 2007 4Runner supposed to stay on once I turn the car off and shut the door? My battery died a couple days ago, granted it was 3 years old, but now I’ve started to notice that the display that shows the time and gas mileage stays orange when I turn the car off. When I peek in the window it only shows the time but I want to know if that could be drawing power still and causing damage to my battery?

No, everything should be off. BUT that screen will stay on in ACC mode so maybe someone modded the wiring to leave ACC on after car is turned off. Check if your cigarette lighters (one in the front and one in the trunk) are still on after you turn the car off. Those are on the ACC. There could be a power draw from one of those.
