The template has marks on it to line it up in both planes around the existing brake light. You then use some masking tape to hold it in place. The template has two locations to drill through into the metal for the bolts, and a third for the wires. Take the backing off the double sided tape on the spoiler, slip the spoiler bolts into the drilled holes, couple of wire clamps into the existing brake light and your done. Once I got the courage to drill the holes it took about 20 minutes more. The drilling is very easy pretty thin plating, its just getting yourself to drill the first hole and then there no turning back. I figured I could always find a little plug to fill the hole touch up paint and you wouldn't even notice if I wanted to go back. One think I suggest that is not in the instructions is to put some form of protection like silicon around the bolts and on the inside of the hole to keep rust and water out. I think the two sided tape is to keep it sealed but it doesn't hurt to add more protection.
