Im going for it too!

Ordered my mesh (in black, dont think it will make a difference).

Got some grips coming in from harbor fright and I'll get going.

I recently ordered a LED bar from the most recent group buy. So I will use this mod with the invisible light bar mod and the missus will be happy and so will I.

Thanks T4r.org!!!

It's a pain to get the mesh into the grill just right...I'm attempting this project and my first go around turned out pretty bad.

I didn't have too much trouble doing it. That wooden template helped a great deal. Sorry you're having a tough time with it.
Hopefully you'll find in the end that it was worth it. I'd love to see when you're all done.

Well your write up helps significantly. I made the wood jig, shaped up the mesh, no problem. It was fitting the mesh inside the grill that turned out amateur. I'm going to try and adjust the jig to reduce the mesh material and try again.

Also, I'm using a different mesh pattern. Smaller diamond shape that may be a little harder to shape than the mesh referenced in this write up.

I'll post pics once I'm satisfied.

Terri did you hold your grill straight when you traced the wood pattern or did you roll it from side to wide when you traced the pattern?

No, I held it straight. It didn't move really at all. It didn't come rolled, if that's what you mean. It came as a flat sheet.

Would you be interested in selling me the middle part of your original grill (the white strip with Toyota logo)? Thanks!

I think he means did you rock your grill from left to right when tracing so that the part you are tracing remains in contact with the mesh. Since the grill is curved, when it is laying on the flat mesh the sides are not against the mesh.

Oh ok! Yes, I had to rock it to trace it. Then cut the board and then wrapped the mesh around.

Hmmm.... I'd have to see if I kept it. I think I did, but not sure why I would have. I'll see if I can find it. If I can find it, you can just have it. Just pay shipping. It's really no use to me

Ok good. yeah your last reply wasn't quite on point. I may try that But I also may try zip-tying the mesh to the grill and then tracing it. We shall see.

SERIOUS KUDOS, Terri

Just wanted to jump on the wagon with extending some serious thanks on a great write up! The simple instructions and accompanying photos really inspire and I will be working on my project mid 2014. I just sold my 3rd gen T4R and picked up an '05 Sport (aka, "the family vehicle") and am looking forward to building it up for my camping trips! Rest assured I WILL be reverting back to your "Satoshi for Dummies" online reference manual.

Thanks again!!

Going to warn you ahead of time, the procedure is very different for the 03-05 grilles.
