Old plugs far out of gap ...

I just replaced the plugs on my 03 4runner. It has 145k on it and appears to have been the original plugs. For fun I checked the gap on the old plugs and everyone of them was around .080. The truck has ran fine before this, though the gas mileage was a tad low. So my question is with the old plugs being so far out of gap, what was it affecting with the engine? I havent had a chance to drive to yet, but do notice it starts much easier now.

Won't hurt the internals of the engine. All it will do is effect how well it starts and runs.
