Question inverter

i keep an ipod nano in my truck all the time need to know if i will have any problems. i have a 12 volt usb charger that shows that its charging but does not charge. today i plugged the charger into the inverter and the ipod now charges no problem. by charging with the inverter i am not getting the buzzing sound i was getting from the 12 volt charger and its all in the console. my question is, is it a bad thing to keep the inverter on all the time?

I don't see why not. Plus I feel like if there was an issue with leaving it on (ie overheating/ fire hazard) then there would be a warning placard. If anything you might shorten its life by leaving it on all the time but I'm not sure. Only one way to find out

I wouldn't assume anything. I use an inverter in my work truck for my laptop. I left the first one (150w) plugged in all the time and the connection between the plug & inverter melted. Now, I unplug the new (400w) inverter anytime I will be out of the truck for an extended amount of time (lunch & overnight).
Better safe than sorry
Make sure to add the install to your "build" thread

It wasn't an assumption, its was a feeling

Not that it matters because the OP has stated he's going to unplug it BUT here's why your story is irrelevant. First of all a laptop is going to draw WAY MORE power than an Ipod (especially a nano). Secondly your talking about an aftermarket inverter where the OP is talking about the "built in" one.

I use to have a small aftermarket inverter in my old Corolla and it even said on it "unplug when not it use". If there was an issue with possible melting Toyota would put a warning somewhere (at minimum in the Owner's manual), not because they care about you, but because they'd want to cover there own ass and potential warranty work.
