Not that it matters because the OP has stated he's going to unplug it BUT here's why your story is irrelevant. First of all a laptop is going to draw WAY MORE power than an Ipod (especially a nano). Secondly your talking about an aftermarket inverter where the OP is talking about the "built in" one.
I use to have a small aftermarket inverter in my old Corolla and it even said on it "unplug when not it use". If there was an issue with possible melting Toyota would put a warning somewhere (at minimum in the Owner's manual), not because they care about you, but because they'd want to cover there own ass and potential warranty work.
