Hi Guys,
I've been trolling here for a while, absorbing all the great info everyone shares, so I figured it was past due to give back. Here's project I did a while ago.
Let me preface the following post with this disclaimer....I'm a little OCD. As you probably know, the center console is a bit of black hole, swallowing whatever you throw into it. I'm a custom home-builder, and I spend most of the day working in and out of my 4runner. As such, I've got lots of little things I use on daily basis. Shortly after buying it, i realized I needed to add a little sanity to the center console.
After searching for an aftermarket insert, I decided to fab up my own. I bought some 2'x2' 3/16" ABS plastic online. I then pulled the entire console out of the truck, and removing enough screws, the whole unit can be disassembled down to the interior bucket.
Spending an afternoon in the wood shop, I was able to create a tiered tray system, epoxied into place, then covered with a healthy coat of Plasti-dip (my first experience with Plasti-dip....lets just say I'm now a fan). I had already hard-wired the AUX 3.5mm jack directly into my ProClip phone mount, so I buried the box entirely
In the lower area, I keep the following:
Custom First-Aid kit.
100' Tape measure
Bottle of aspirin
Box of extra business cards
Electrical circuit check tool
Extra phone cables
In the upper tray which is removable, I keep:
A selection of pens and pencils
A couple large sharpies
Surefire flashlight & Gerber multi-tool
Hand sanitizer, pill bottle full of quarters & 16' Tape measure
you can also see the forward two slots.
On one side are two card holders; business cards & store reward cards,
On the other side are keys to my projects currently being built.
Each item has a home, and everything is nice and secure...no rattling, and I can reach in the dark while flying down the highway, and find exactly what I need.
