TIS Techstream

Just wondering if any 4th geners out there are set up to use this from home.

It seems popular in the 5th gen subforum (TOYOTA TIS Techstream) but I haven't heard of anyone with a 4th gen doing it aside from going to the dealership.

Just curious if it's really worth it on our years (maybe the 5th gen would have more changeable settings??) or am I better off going to the dealership when/if I want changes made

I think it has a bunch of options. Ive seen posts for the alarm beeps, tpms, and wiper interval

Newest Version Mini VCI 16 Pin for Toyota Lexus Tis Techstream Cable | eBay

I know you need it to reprogam the TPMS if you are replacing the sensors. I was in a rush so i had the dealer do my TPMS but I ordered the cable anyway and will putz with it.

I just ordered a techstream with software off ebay for $27 - I'll be testing it when it arrives in a week. Anyone else have any more info? The main things I want to do are to disable the beep and make it so hitting the unlock button once unlocks all doors. If it works, I'll post a how-to.

I bought mine off someone in the 5th Gen thread. The tool isn't Gen specific.
I wanted it to get live data, "putz" and most of all for future troubleshooting. I already have a TPMS tool. The 4th Gen has fewer things to customize but I did use it to customize the door relock timing. I'll explore other customs.

Ah, that's why they're using one of those Chinese cables with a bootleg copy of the old software. Well it seems to work okay, GL trying to get any support on the "tool," but then again for less than $30, its probably worth more to get a new one.

From a DIY, "I wanna customize settings and pull some codes" aspect its a great tool. I'd like to see someone play with it on a much deeper level though. i.e. testing a vehicle, utilizing things like DataList (customizing said Data List), Bi-directional controls, ect. I have a feeling its not going to be able to perform those functions properly or accurately.

Not knocking the cable, for 95% of owners its a great cheap alternative to going to the Dealer. But I always look at my diagnostic equipment from a technician standpoint, even if its just for home.

Exactly. One of the 95% here. I see it partly as a toy, partly a tool. It's paid for itself at less than the cost of one customization trip to the stealership.
I am unable to, nor would I want to, play with any ECU programming. However, you are able to customize datalists, capture all the live data and record data streams. I'm particularly interested in the fuel injection timings, ST & LT fuel trims and fuel economies. Not sure how it would be inaccurate.
It's something to play with and hopefully never have to use for troubleshooting given the decent reliability of Toyota.

Correct me if i'm wrong Blackworks but I don't even think the dealership version allows you to adjust AFR or timing maps. Usually those are set from the factory and if one requires adjustment, then they would just replace the entire ECU. That stuff is PFM and I don't think your average technician knows enough about it to be able to make adjustments, plus it would require a dyno.
