2008 Front defroster air coming out forward facing vents

I have a 2008 4runner sport and when I turn on my front defroster to defog the window, a bit of air also comes out the outermost vents facing both the driver and passenger directly. Is this normal or is there a way to fix this aside from having to close each vent manually? When it's on defrost, it should only be blowing on the front window.

Thanks in advance for your help

I believe it is designed that way, so some warm air is directed at each of the front side door windows. I think the thought was that if the windshield needs defrosting/defogging, then the side windows do also.

The way the system is designed, is if the defoster is on, your side vents next to the front windows will be on to keep the front side windows clear so you can use your outside mirrors. The vents in front (either side of the radio) should not having much air. A little might escape, but it shouldn't be much.

Edit: TechWrench beat me to it!

If you are having problems with your blend doors, try changing the HVAC controls.
