2006 HeadLights and TailLights

Some of the members in this forum (me also) are wondering if it is possible to fit new HeadLights and/or TailLights in 2003-05 4Runner. As far as I know the only member in this forum who already has 2006 model, 4runner06, I PM him a question about comparison his Head and Tail Lights to the previous version. I hope he would be able to find someone with 2003-05 4Runner who can park his vehicle beside 2006 model and take some pictures of beam pattern of the headlights and night images of new LED taillights in comparison to previous bulb one. I think it will be very important information about quality of new upgrades before starting these modifications.
I'm 99% sure that LED tails will perform better. I hope they will perform something like LEDs on FX.
I also read a lot of information that projectors are better then regular halogen, but still have a question: "How much better?".
I hope this thread will help us understand this better.

Hopefully the headlights are better because the currrent lights are pretty meh in my opinion. The low-beams are particularily sucky.

I can't say they are so bad, they are definitely better then on my previous Montero, but when I'm driving in a highway during the night, I need something better and brighter. If NEW lights are better, I hope I can fit them to my 05.

I just drove side by side with a new 06. The headlights are much nicer than the stock ones. I can't tell if they're brighter, because my HIDs put out a wider and longer beam pattern.

They also look pretty blah for projectors. I'm used to seeing more color in real HID projectors i guess. But they are nicer than the stock headlights. I want to see the cutoff. It's not hard to put HIDs in those projectors for more color, but the cutoff still wouldn't look as nice.

I'm definately going for the tails. Hopefully it wont be too hard to wire them.

Headlamps and Tail

I will definitely try and get a picture posted of the comparison between the 2003-05 model headlamps and the 06 for you. I personally like new changes and will try to find out more infromation about the possible retro fitting for those who would like to do so. I will also post more isloated pictures of the front and rear bumpers for a closer look.

definitely the head lights, but i don't like the tail lights. I already have the aftermarket black tail lights and they look much better than the stock 2003-2005 and also the 2006 (albeit I wish I did have the LED)

I figure I can add the LED cheaper than buying the "uglier" 2006 LED tail lights.

Also the turn signal isn't LED, its just the regular bulb

I hopefully would like to make it fit on 2003-2005 T4R. The head lamps are standard on Harrier(Lexus RX330). Now its also a standard for 2006. I think just looking at picture specs of the 2006 4runner at (http://toyota.jp/hiluxsurf/index.html) this has full pictures up close of the 2006 with 360 view. However it's in Japanese Text but it was very helpful to me knowing it is a possibilty to switch the head lamps from 2003-2005 t4r. With a full modification replacements on full front fenders and hood. (thats if you're willig to fork over $3500 of your hard earn money for that modification)

I voted yes for the headlights, would have voted yes for the tail lights too, but I already modded my 04 lights with LEDs.

The more I think about it, I think I like what I did with my tail lights better then the new OEM ones. I don't like how you can see the LEDs when they are off, on the OEM ones.

That is what I'm planning on doing to make my aftermarket blackened tail lights LED.

More expensive than cdoyle's, but I don't have the heart to cut the tail lights up

I was reading about them on some other forums, and people weren't too happy with them. I guess they used low quality LEDs, and the light output wasn't very good.

I figured when I did mine, if I screwed them up. I just go get some of the JDM ones, so it was a win win either way

Oh,
almost forgot, I read that both Sylvania and Phillips, are developing their own plug/play LED bulbs that will be DOT approved.

If you were to go this route, I would wait to see what they come out with.

I wish they would hurry up and release them, like to see what they come up with.

Headlights no. tails yes.

I dont like the shape of the 06+ headlights, but I DO like the projectors.

I like the LEDs in the tails, but It hasnt been enough for me to change mine out.
