Towing capacity

Hey everybody,
I'm looking to buy an airstream type trailer to tow behind my 2005 v8 4runner sport. I think Toyota lists the towing capacity somewhere in the 4000LB range. The Airstream Bambi is just under 4000LBs but I have heard some discussion that the 4runners true towing capacity may be less than advertised. Does anyone out there have any experience with this? Thanks.

your V8 should have a tow rating of 7000lbs (4wd) the 2wd V8's have a 7200lbs capacity. (there was a hitch controversy in the 03 models and some 04's) but by the 05's they had the proper hitch to back there towing capacities.

you'll have no problems toting that 4000lb trailer

Towing capacity does not appear to be an issue with the trailer you are specifying however...

The 4Runner has a pretty short wheelbase compared to say a full sized pick-up. What you may discover is that you end up with a tail wagging the dog situation with the trailer causing the vehicle to oscillate above certain speeds.

Something to keep in mind and look for.

We have an 05 v8 4runner and tow a 22ft box trailer loaded to about 5500lbs all over the place. This summer we actually did a 3000mi roadtrip with this setup with no problems whatsoever.

The tongue weight of our trailer was a bit heavy though, so we invested in an EazLift weight distribution hitch and swaybar system that made the towing a bit more comfortable and with less sag

You should have no problem with the airstream. Let me know if you have any questions about our setup.
