Question about moving from coast to coast

Hello T4R board,

I just picked up a 2007 v8 "4wd" a few months ago basically because i am driving cross country for a new job, moving from southern CA to Marlborough, MA. I just wanted to know what i would need to be doing to get my car "east coast ready" besides tires, I will be looking into BFG A/T judging from the overall responses ive read. I was primarily wondering as far as different fluids ill be needing to change as far as oil, coolant, diff, etc. Any help would be appreciated. This is my first truck and I am already in love with it and want to make it last! Thank you in advance

would be a good idea to do a brake fluid flush

the winter road salt is tough on the brake calipers

If it were me I would reconsider the BFG all terrains. I have them and love them on mine because I off road in the western desert a lot but you will loose MPG. I would probably go with a street tire for driving across the country. When I lived in Virginia there was not really any place to go off road and I would think Maryland would be the same. I would prefer a quiet tire and higher mpg if you are not going off road.

I used to work at a small engineering firm in Marlborough, guess it's a small world.

I run the recommended 5W30 for engine oil.
I use the recommended Toyota coolant (pink stuff), which is good to 100k from the factory.
In my diffs and transfer case I run Mobil 1 75W90, which I replace every 60k.
I use Toyota WS fluid in the tranny. I did a drain-and-fill around 100k miles and will probably do another one around 150k.
And I use whatever is listed in the owner's manual for brake fluid. I try and do a flush once a year or so (approx. every 30k miles)

I think you might be over-thinking this a little bit. It's not like you're moving from the jungle to the arctic. Unless you run some crazy fluids in your truck now, you'll probably be fine running the same stuff here. Just be sure to get a good set of tires for the snow. If you have the space to store tires, I'd recommend a snow tire during the winter months.

I guess it's more important how you drive than what you drive.

edit: BTW, welcome to the east coast!
