VSC on/off, VSC Trac, Traction Control AND ABS Lights on.

Okay so I have read through all the threads about these lights coming on. Mine used to come on with the check engine light, I fixed that with the CAT bypass from UDR. Check engine light went off but the traction lights still came on, so they replaced by MAF sensor circuit board. Lights off for about 2 months. Lights came back on WITHOUT check engine light and it was the fuel pump. Got that replaced.

So now intermittently the lights all come on with the ABS light coming on as well (no check engine light). I have replaced the gas cap several times, that is not the problem. I'm tired of replacing these parts and the lights not getting fixed. Keep in mind that I do run a trial every time these lights come on and the function are actually engaged, which is pretty dangerous since I am counting on them at times.

Any input or advice would be great. I have a 2005 4Runner Sport with around 214,000 miles on it so no warranty work will be accepted. I'm just trying to get to the bottom of this ongoing problem!!

Its a $35 dollar part that installs at the top of the brake lever. twist the old one out, and the new one in in less than 5 minutes...but i can't remember what its called!! Had the same problem with the lights and I couldn't shift out of park sometimes. i think i still have the packaging and the old part. ill try and get the name of that. can't believe i forgot that!!

I ran into this just today on mine. '06 V8 Sport. I've got a code reader that will read ABS/SRS codes. Mine came back as a brake light switch fault and one that said ABS Control unit or something or other. My guess is the brake light switch is the actual problem and the other code is secondary. Look under your dash where the brake pedal attaches. Right at the firewall is a white round thing with a blue connector. This is the brake light switch. Seems like a cheap easy fix. Me personally though, I just cleared the light.

thats the part i couldn't remember! it will eventually need replaced b/c you won't be able to shift from park. there is a trap door at the front portion of the shifter which when removed exposes a button which over rides the lock and allows to shift from park. easy, cheap fix.

I totally agree with you, I want to get to the fun stuff but I have all these other parts to fix first! Thanks for pointing out where it was!

Hey man thanks, finally I can get these lights to stop coming on. Do you know where you ordered it? Or do I need to get it from a Toyota Dealer?

I bought mine from the stealership and it was $35 or $45. They had one in stock so i thought WTH. Part number below, as is location. that lever arm belongs to the brake pedal, so the switch is immediately in front of the lever and was brown. the replacement is pictured with the blue sleeve. push up and twist a half turn or so. pops right out!

Smile Zero Calibration Point

I don't remember the exact thread on this issue but if you use a code reader with can compatible it will clear your code but also erase your zero point for vsc. There is a great write up on this with a tsb from toyota. I followed the instructions on the tsb exactly and all my troubles are gone. Could be your only problem, Zero Point Calibration.

***** please help! Abs, vsc trac off lights ******

Hi everyone, I've read numerous posts and watched alot of YouTube videos but I still cannot diagnose my abs and traction control issue. A couple months ago I had the check engine light, abs, vsc trac off lights come on all at the same time. Scanned the codes and it came up as a bad catalytic and abs speed sensor. I put in a new speed sensor and cleared the catalytic code. So my check engine light is off but my abs and traction lights are still on. I tried to do a zero point calibration (got instructions from another thread) by shorting pins 4 and 14 out in a specific sequence. The lights didn't flash the way they were supposed to like in the post I read but I did get them to flash somehow but they never went out. I never tried swapping the gas cap as alot of people have but wouldn't I get a cel light for that?

So I'm stuck!! Now the abs code reads problem with the main control module? Something like that....

Any help is greatly greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much!

Can you get the exact DTC code for us. i.e. P0300 or C1203. That will help us get you in the right direction diagnostically speaking.

Same thing happened with my wife's 08. I too tried the zpc and couldn't get it to work so i then swapped the brake light switch out from my 05 and lights haven't come back since. I think who ever put it in the 08 didn't press it in far enough before twisting it in place.

Have you done any sort of work or modifications to anything in the front suspension or drivetrain? I did exhaust and a week or so later got the vsc on/off and vsc Trac and check engine light on this was almost 2 months ago...couple weeks ago I did a lift and had the abs light come on as well..I used a multimeter and tested the continuity in the abs sensor wire and found the driver side had been damaged. Just got the new sensor wire and put it on Monday and all lights still on..went a to a bday party mon night and got not even a mile and all the lights shut off including the ones from before the abs wire. If any work has been done in that region I'd test the wire just in case

Okay, I called my friend with the code reader. He's going to see if the codes are still saved. Another thing I should mention.. It's been years that in the winter when I remote start my truck the abs, vsc trac and trac off lights would come on. All I had to do is turn the truck off and back on again and the lights would clear. Weird?
