Angry 2006 Toyota 4 runner rear parking brakes

Im kinda new to this forum so if i'm incorrectly posting the wrong place forgive me. I need some sure fired tips on how to get the horse shoe like pin in the parking brake shoe and around the parking brake lever on the back side of shoe. I put it through the backing plate but I can't get it to go around brake lever and line up with the hole in the brake shoe to put the retainer cup and spring on.( Help) is there a trick someone can give me to get this shoe on. I've worked on the da-- thing for hours. needle nose pliers and every trick I know with no luck. that one pin is a horseshoe shape and its giving me hell. also the da-- axle hub is so big it covers the both shoes. There is such a small area to work. This is getting on my last nerve.

See if this youtube video (installing 06 4 runner parking brake youtube) at the link below will help you. If you have not changed many shoes you will learn the springs can be challenging. There are some dedicated tools that are usually handy on standard shoe’s springs (that might be available for the smaller area). I find needle nose vise grips to be handy if hand strength is an issue. Last I try to watch a Local Friendly Mechanic for tips or ask and they might show you the tricks they have learned.

Good Luck!
