first number = tread width in milometers
second number = the percent of the thread width that equals the side wall height. (so 65% of 265 = side wall height)
last number is the diameter of the rim
convert the first number to inches by multiplying it by: .039375
265mm = 10.4in.
mulitply 10.4 by .65 = 6.7 (=side wall height)
to get the height of the tire multiply the side wall height by 2 and add the diameter of the rim
so a 265/65/R17 = 30.5" x 10.4" tire.
