Bilstein 5100's, stock front springs, Toytec superflex rear
Anyone use this combination? I have a 2006 SR5 4wd V6 and am wanting to lift it a little. I want to put the front bilsteins in the highest slot, 2.5 inches I think, and match it to the rear but I want to gain flex in the rear. I dont mind a little rake because I pull a trailer a couple times a month and dont want the headlights in the sky while pulling the trailer. One question with the front is will the coils ever bind with that much preload? Once I get a bumper and winch I will swap out the coils for something stiffer but for now I dont see a reason to go to a full out coilover setup. Opinions??? And I have searched but there is actually too much lift related info out there. It is daunting. Thanks.

If it were me I would set the 5100s at the 1st notch .85 setting and put eibach springs up front. I did this on my brothers truck and it rides fantastic.
This combo will give you about 2.5" lift.

If it were me and I was planning to add a bumper and winch in the future then I would just skip the set up you are looking at and do the suspension once and be done with it. If you want coil overs in the future then just put them in now and save some money.

Yeah this is what I debated for a long time just a lift, but once I realized that I was getting a bumper I figured just to get a nice suspension the first time around and not keep installing swapping in and out to upgrade.

I call it incrementalism. When you take the next step because it cost just a little more and you might end up doing it anyway. I was falling into that trap. I am thinking of doing a spacer lift, wait I should get shocks, wait while I'm at it I should get a suspension lift kit, wait I should get coilovers, wait I might as well get control arms, well what the hell I might as well go with a full out long travel setup.

Yeah, a lot of guys have started out small and then always end up wanting bigger and better. *cough* Gaterose *cough* I know when it comes time for me to upgrade I'm just going straight to Icon or radflo with all the trimmings.
Some guys don't start out wanting these things but the OP already said he wants a bumper and winch so he knows he wants a more trail worthy rig, he might as well save a bit longer and get a legit suspension to handle the extra weight.

I can confirm this. I never and don't plan on upgrading to a bumper/winch setup, so my setup works for my needs.
IMO, I would recommend waiting and saving up for a combo/setup that's more ideal for a bumper/winch setup as the other members suggest.
In the big picture, you'll be saving more time and resources by planning around you're ideal setup rather than piecing together upgrades and having to redo alignment twice.

My thoughts were that most of the more expensive coilover kits have the toytec rear springs with bilsteins or at least something similar. The front appears to be the biggest difference. There are 2 options for the front right? Conventional spring/shock combo and adjustable threaded coilover. The bilstein seems to be a compromise between the 2. What I dont like about going full coilover right now is that I either have to go with a lower rate spring and then crank it up if/when I get a bumper or get a higher rate spring more appropriate for the heavier weight of the bumper. Either I have to replace springs when I get the bumper or I have to rattle my teeth until then. If I go Stock spring on 5100s in the front with the toytec superflex in the rear, I can go to a stiffer OME spring when I get the bumper. I will have still spent less money and get the same result. I would rather have bilstiens with an OME front spring and upper control arms than coilovers without upper control arms. I mean what real advantage is a coilover besides adjustability? Doesn't a coliover perform the same as a conventional spring shock? Isn't the upper control arms where the travel is gained? There are multiple stiffness options for us with a conventional spring like the OME. I kinda like the idea of having a conventional setup anyway. I never plan on going higher than 3/2 there are just too many problems.

Okay I am probably going to succumb to the coilover side. Whats the difference between the Toytec ultimate and regular?

Ultimate kit -
ToyTec/Bilstein front adjustable coilover shocks featuring Bilstein 5100 front shocks adjustable from 1" to 3" front lift
Spanner wrenches for adjustment (threaded coilovers)
Sway bar relocates (Not used on 2010 4Runner with KDSS suspension)
Front diff drop kit
Regular 3" kit just comes with diff drop and default 5100 coilover with 4 height adjustable perch settings.
For about $10 more, I'd get the ICON setup. IMO, don't really need the diff drop, while the swaybar relocates will help to put back factory steering at highway speeds.

I'd definitely suggest adjustable coilovers, do it right the first time. You may want to check with bulldog to see if the OW 2.0 kit is sold or if it's still available.
