I just got off the phone with Bilstein and edited post #47 accordingly. The 4600 and 5100 series DO ride differently. See post #47 and #48

Thanks 094, good info. So if you don't like the yellow blue paint of the 4600, for a few $ more you can buy the SS looking ones(5100) which are the same riding if set to 0"(stock) lift, great. Looks like the cost is about $25 difference.

Replace XREAS

Have an '03 V8 Ltd that had XREAS. Removed that system last year(June) and installed 4600 BIL and FJ springs, very satisfied. All my driving is on road.
When I removed XREAS it had no gas pressure, don't know how long like that, maybe from time I bought in 2013!
Ended up doing LCA.s too as alignment bolts all rusted solid, that was fun!!

I guess if the system was faulty from the time you bought it, then a new aftermarket suspension would feel really good, ha-ha.

Thanks @094Runner for clarifying.

It is odd though that Shock Warehouse's comparison info starts with: "Although they are different brands and may appear to be very different from each other the Bilstein 5100 and Heavy Duty actually share many of the same components and ride characteristics."

Am I missing something here?

Negative. According to Bilstein, the 4600 and 5100 are valved different and will likely ride differently from one another.

Money and color aside, if you are not going to level or lift your T4R, Bilstein 4600 series is your shock. If your rig is leveled/lifted or if you plan on doing so, the 5100 series is your shock.

Well according to the "Shockwarehouse" link you provided they stated this-

"The Similarities: The 5100 series and the Heavy Duty shocks use the same technology internally. Both use the same internal valving and at stock height will ride the same".

So I guess they aren't saying what Bilstein is saying. I just posted basically what they state, but obviously they are wrong about the similarities.

I have a gen4 with x-reas and have the rough country 3" spacer kit. I want to keep my spacer lift on when taking out my xreas and replacing the struts/shocks.
If I go with the bilstein 5100 adjustable leveling shock kit ( 2003-2009 4Runner 4WD Bilstein 5100 Adjustable Leveling Shock Kit 03094RUN4WD ) what is the max height y'all would recommend adjusting the shocks to without making the front ride to high? i want to have a lift, but nothing too crazy obnoxious. also, Is there any special shocks you need when taking out the xreas or will the bilstein 5100's do?

Thank you!

Sorry I can't help as I never got around to changing out my xreas system yet, it's still working fine.
You have your location as Eau Claire, where is that?
