I have been looking, searching and watching every Youtube video about the 2005 4 Runner.
My question if anyone can answer is subjective but maybe worth it.
Looking at a slightly modified 2005 limited V8, miles are high at 250000 but all service is done, timing belt, water pump, plugs, rotors calipers and ball joints. It has a 2 inch spacer lift, Xreas is still there but rear air is gone and replaced with coils and Firestone air bags. Aftermarket rims with new duratracs.
Body looks good except small rust spot either side of the tailgate trim section. Frame looks good and has been oiled.
Interior is clean with no tear, bodywork is nice except previously noted, engine is high but all fluids have been changed with Amsoil, front, rear, center and transmission all done. Secondary air pump seems quiet.
Apart from owning a crystal ball, what else is a concern if anything?
Thanks in advance for all your expert advice and insight.

I'm looking at purchasing a 05 V8 Limited, at 200k miles. The interior and exterior seems to be in great condition. All the carfax can tell me is it was a single owner for all 200k and the only work that is recorded being done is the replacement of the intake manifold.
Have you had any problems with your 250k purchase or any advice you'd mind sharing with me.

Should we come back to this post and add in some links to pages that talk about the EVAP system?
I feel like we are right at the correct time frame for these things to start puttering out, and I feel like this would be a great thread for people to come to.

Hey guys, not sure exactly where to post this but seems about right. I am in the market for a 4runner. Went and looked at a 2006 V6 4wd SR5 w/ 165,000 yesterday. It looked pretty good overall with one exception. Rust is starting to show just underneath the chrome trim piece on the lift gate. Can this be fixed easily? Impossible to fix? Or somewhere in the middle. I will attach a picture for reference. Also, is around $11,000 a fair price for this truck? Or is it too high/low? Thanks!

I paid $12500 for an 05' Limited V8 with 73,000miles. It depends where you live though - I'm in Ohio plus talked the dealer down 2K. I'd try and get them under $10,000 - what's the blue book value on it?

Saw quite a few 4Runners with rust on the back hatch when I was shopping last year. Common spot was right under the rear wiper motor and the 2 bottom corners of the rear glass where rain drips.
You'll have to pull the chrome trim piece off and see where else the rust is. Don't trust that the rust is only where you see it. If its on the surface, you can treat it and re-paint it but its hard to do on a body panel without it looking like its touched up. Curious to see what the inside of the hatch looks like also. Rain can get into the hatch if any of the seals are gone.
IMO, I'd stay away from rust on body panels (or rust in general). Just too much of a pain to correct and an eye sore, unless you can score a heck of a deal bargaining against that.

I am going to be looking at an 08 SR5 4runner with very Low miles 37k on Sunday listed for $21,900. 1 Original Owner according to Carfax. Clean car according to Carfax. It looks like the car lived all it's previous life Morrisville, PA , and was recently sold at Auction and now being listed in Washington State. Any tips of what I should look for?
From what I can tell Pennsylvania is considered to be located in the "Rust Belt" so first thing I will do is look underneath and see how bad the frame, and underbody components look.

$22k for a 4th Gen???!! Wow. That's a really high price.
Aside from the price, those are very low miles for an '08 so it probably sat. A LOT. I would definitely make sure all the 4WD components work since those need to be exercised regularly or they seize.

According to Carfax, Cargurus etc.. Estimated Retail price with that low of mileage and year is considered to be abou $20.5K . It's being sold at a small used car lot. I will see what can be worked on price wise, if all checks out good.
Thanks for the advice on checking the 4wd system. I have seen a lot of posts on this forum in regards to actuator problems if not used. I also looked up the toyota service records and see the actuator was sticking at one point but was fixed by the dealer.

Pre-Buy tips - 2007 4Runner
4 Runner Engine - Album on Imgur2007 TOYOTA 4RUNNER SR5/SPORT EDITION
4.0L V6 FI DOHC 24V
2WD
122,000 miles.
1 owner.
I am concerned about overheating and a head-gasket busting.
the current owner relayed incident about over-heating, and replaced the water pump, some hoses, and the radiator. I'm having a mechanic check for a head gasket, but other than that - what should I be concerned about?
See the image below of the engine - looks like coolant was spraying all over the hoses.
Is the corner of the engine a sign of an oil leak?

Keys and remote start
I've got a 2007 4 Runner SR5 and it came with a remote start and sadly only one key. I've read through the program sequence and have keys on order. My question is if 5 copies are in existence and I need to "forget" those to make new spares, will that mean I need to program a new key for the remote start? Thoughts?
