Anyone installed the 5th gen mirror covers with the blinker and puddle lights?
Has anyone installed the 5th gen mirror covers with the blinker and puddle lights on your 4th gen 4R?
I noticed this thread on TacomaWorld where someone installed the 2010 mirrors on an older Tacoma and it was almost plug and play 2010 4Runner Mirrors Worked! - Tacoma World Forums
I think its likely that the mirrors will also go on our 4th gen based on the above.
Having said that, there are two ways to go about this that I'm aware of:
1. Buy OEM 2010 mirrors (with the blinker and puddle light) from your local Toyota dealer (no idea how much they cost, but they won't be cheap for sure)
2. Buy the same mirrors from ebay (after market, not OEM Toyota) - I quickly checked and they appear to be going for $130 each side + painting $65.
Any other options I'm missing?
If you have done this mod, please post a link to your thread or post some pics in this thread. Thanks!

I would love to do this swap, I would go with the aftermarket ones, I did that when I replaced my passenger side and you can't tell it's not OEM

Hmmm, this is interesting. I would love to have these mirrors. Hopefully someone tries it out first to confirm they will fit a 4th Gen.
Maybe one of you guys that work for Toyota could do this mod and get back to us ;)
Time to keep an eye out of wrecked 5th Gens.

Damn SilverGs!!! We have like tastes in our mods! Good Work!! LMAO,
Anyway, as far as costs, they appear to be $240 each. Adding heated mirrors shouldn't be a problem since its plug and play (As far as I know, our runners come prewired for it) Having that said, I DON'T KNOW if the mirror wire harness plugs into our 4th gen body wire harness. I doubt it does, we will need pins out.
source of cost of the mirrors:

I've been considering this mod as well but didn't want to be the guinea pig. I'm guessing it'll be a straight swap minus wiring up the extra lights. My onlynother concern is the size and shape as they appear to be smaller than our 4th gen mirrors with a different shaped base/mount too. I was going to get mine from 1A Auto as they seem to be decent quality and come with the covers (some dont) and are only $199 shipped.

I'd be surprised if they fit based on the angle of the windscreen. My impression is that the 4th gen is more swept back than the 5th gen. Since the mirrors are mounted in the window, I'd expect that the angled edge would follow the windscreen angle. I'll take a look compared to some 4th gens at work today. We literally have over a dozen 4Runners in my parking lot. I'm sure I can find a 4th.

The way the guys with the Tacomas have been installing them is without the arms that come with the 4Runner mirrors, so I think the angle doesn't really matter.

Great! What year is your 4Runner? Are you planning on getting the OEM mirrors (Toyota dealer) or after market ones such as these ones 2010 Toyota 4Runner Power Heated Signal Puddle Light Mirror Pair at 1AAuto.com ?
Please post up pics and write up regardless of which ones you get.

Nice, I can't wait to see if it's an easy swap. If so, I may pick up a set myself.
When just looking from the outside, the Tacos and 5th gens seem to have the same mirrors anyway which would make sense as to why it would be easier than on our 4th gens. As previously mentioned, it seems that some Taco owners were just placing the 4runner mirror onto their factory stem/mount.
However, I don't think this method will work with our mirrors due to the mounting/swivel area being shaped differently. See THIS guide for a look at our 4th gen mirrors disassembled and HERE for a look at the 5th Gen internals (NOTE: these pictures are the "Kool-Vue" aftermarket brand so OEM are possibly different). Judging by their shape alone, it looks they won't match-up (4th gen base and 5th Gen 4runner mirror assembly). Maybe (hopefully) i'm just missing something. I guess the only real way to tell would be to try it out.
