License plate light
My son drives the 2003 V8 4Runner I bought for him. Last night he was pulled over because the lights illuminating the rear license plate were out . Is this usually a bulb issue or is itinerary complicated, what should my diagnostic and repair plan be? Thank you in advance.

Pretty easy since it's probably the bulbs.... You will need two replacement bulbs (168/194)... Loosen the two screws to remove cover, pull the bulbs, plug in the new ones and replace the cover....

I just swapped mine out last weekend. Its very easy and only takes about 5-10 minutes. I swapped mine for LEDs so I still have the "bulbs" that I took out if you need them.

There are a few sites you can use that you put the vehicle information in and it shows you all the LED conversion bulbs (such as interior dome lights, license plate lights, parking lights, etc.) Try LED Lights, Bulbs & Accessories - SUPER BRIGHT LEDS. Now that the bulbs are burnt out, it's a good excuse to upgrade.

I used THIS kit to swap all the interior lights as well as the license plate lights (you have to add the license plate bulbs below)
But, it looks like you can just get the license plate bulbs. The LEDs are much brighter and whiter light.

Not sure if they are different, but I've had this kit in my truck for a year with no problems. It's almost half the price of the other one.

Those look like the ones I have in my doors & license plate, but I have the panels in my map & dome lights as pictured in THIS post. I got a good deal from PFran since they were back ordered when I placed my order.

Oh okay, yeah the ones in my dome lights have less LEDs. My center dome light has 6 and my rear has 4 bigger ones I believe. You can see what they look like:

Those look pretty bright too, but mine are wicked bright. Especially the rear cargo panel. It lights the back area up like day when it's dark out. Also, can't say enough about Paul at PFran, he took great care of me!

One thing needed to mention is the plate lights Momo has are a higher technology than LED almost like a plasma. Its not a single diode. Its more of a tiny panel in a circular shape... I Have some like these in panels and they look amazing. My favorite thing about them is that when u turn em on u dont see a bunch of LED's u just see one bright Panel light up the night. Gives it that stock look u know.

Whenever mind go out I walk back and give it a good tap with my balled up fist. Usually does the trick.

I like my lic plate lights as dim as possible, short of getting a ticket.
