Trying to get an idea of doing the satoshi on my grill and leaving the smoked chrome as is. It would be just enough for a little contrast IMO as I still have the chrome lettering on the sides (rear hatch ones removed). Opinions?

I still think it'd look good. I love the Satoshi grille. It's one of my favorite mods.

You could do white if you wanted a lot of contrast.
Or maybe titanium metallic?
I'm not a fan of chrome, personally. but i do like some kind of contrast. What if you did the emblem chrome and kept the frame color matched black?
edit i also think you should blackout the headlights...

Thanks. Your thread will come in very handy if I do it myself. Yours looks great without even having to rebuild the sides with fiberglass so ill prob just do that on mine.

Generally, I agree on bright, shiny chrome but the SE grill has a darker chrome finish that I like. Without any other white on my truck I think that color would be tacky and out if place. I may still just black it out but with everything else black, especially if I do the headlights too, all the body lines/details tend to wash out and blend in together. As of now, I'm leaning towards the chrome.
How much we're you 5th gen letters btw? Those would look great.

Speaking of blacked out headlights, I've had these, along with my 5k retro, waiting to be installed for months now. Going to be putting everything on pretty soon.

Ha, sure...and then you can send me those BAMF sliders. We'll call it an even trade.

I think so. The bezels are matte black right now but i'm debating on switching them over to Satin before I install them. I'm thinking the flat black might look too flat (duh right) against my paint once they're on the truck. My indecisiveness combined with my laziness of late has led to them sitting for as long as they have without being installed. As I said, the 5k HIDs will be going on at the same time so I can't wait to get it finished.

Thanks man! I'm happy with it so far but have a few more plans for it. I'm getting close to being "done" but that's proving to be a moving target. Ha.

Well I was finally able to wrap up the grill yesterday. I'm not 100% satisfied with the fit/finish but I was tired of messing with it and it'll have to do for now. I am currently undecided but i'll may go ahead and paint the outer surround black so it blends in better. However, the smoke SE chrome looks pretty good.
For the mesh, I ended up using THIS mesh from Lowes. With me being uncertain as to whether I would like the satoshi after finishing, I figured it was a no-brainer for only $8. That way i'm not too much in the hole if I change my mind (which rarely happens ). Worst case, I end up buying a limited black grille.
I like the plain look of mesh only but will probably end up using the same emblem most others do, the FJ40 "Toyota" one ( HERE). That seems to be the one going for ~$70 on Ebay but its only $34+shipping at partznet.com.
Kind of hard to see with it being so overcast but here are some pictures:

Thanks. Im happy with it. Although the quality isn't quite as good as some of the online, grill-specific meshes i've seen, you get so much material for $8 that I couldn't resist. Granted I did have to paint mine but that only took a few more minutes. I'll probably be dipping the outside today.

Thanks man! The grill should be black later today, which will be the 2nd time that grill has been dipped
